Never. Repeat, never eat three massive bacon and sausage sandwiches just before going to work as a janitor. I am drinking water like its going out of fashion at work and I've had a bottle of lucozade as well, and I'm still as dry as the Gobi Desert. My God. I am so thirsty!

Giving their performance of the season, Beverley Town beat close rivals for the title, Parkgate, 2-1 last night and secured at least a playoff place now. We're top with a couple of games in hand on Wakefield in second and a much easier run in than others also chasing the title.
Yesterday's game was our last home game of the season and with a crowd of 345, it meant our average for the season is over 300, which for a division 10 team is fantastic!

I've just been in the barbers and he's always playing 80s music so now I've got The Power of Love stuck in my head.

Sorry, yes, someone earlier was bemoaning that a kick off was delayed by 10 minutes so some players and officials could break their fast before the game started. Due to apparently potentially missing public transport.
Oh I see, well that is rather insensitive of the poster. People practicing their cultural traditions is far more important than someone catching a train.

Gosh, I hope someone checked the local bus and train timetables to make sure they didn't delay any of the fans or players.
Sorry but I haven't read the rest of this thread, am I missing something?

I was at a football game this evening where the game was stopped for a moment so a player could break his fast. I don't think I've ever seen this before. I always love to experience different cultures and it was nice to see.

Just watching a bit of Kosovo v Wales women and it highlighted something I truly admire and respect about football, something I think makes the game absolutely beautiful to follow, and that is that at any level of football, at any game, anywhere in the world you are almost certain to see travelling fans; there was a group of about a dozen Wales fans behind the Kosovo goal even when there were hardly any other fans in the ground. These guys are so passionate about football, they've travelled to Kosovo to watch their women play. I really admire and respect that about football.

A day in history for aviation.
On this day in 1967, the first Boeing 737 made its maiden flight.
On this day in 1969, the first British-built Concorde made its maiden flight.
Very different technology to be released just two years apart!

This morning I finished book one in the series, The Last Kingdom, and so it's onto The Pale Horseman tonight. I love the first person style Cornwell used in this first book, not just a first person with the main character narrating the events but actually knowingly narrating the events to the reader, with little sections added every so often where the narrator points out that he is now an old man speaking about his younger self, and even referring to yourself, the reader, at a couple of points. Great style!
Yesterday I finished book two in the series and so it's onto number 3: Lords of the North. Can't wait to find out what Uhtred gets up to in this one!
I must say, I've never been that interested in Saxon or Viking history but this series is really enthusing me towards it and wanting me to delve much deeper into it. It's a large part of our history and the foundations for our country were laid during this period. I love England so I'm definitely going to have to find out more!

Anyone else fancy seeing that new comedy film, Seize Them! ?
The reviews haven't been great but who listens to reviews, eh? It looks to be in the same sort of style as Plebs, which as some on here will know is my favourite TV show of all time.

I've considered this in the past. It wouldn't be difficult to bulk out the programming when there wasn't any live sport by filling it with documentaries and news programmes and even broadcasts of historical matches from various different sports but in the modern day of television where tradition terrestrial broadcasting is dying a little and online streaming is becoming so prevelant it doesn't seem that there would really be much of a demand for it.

Anyone but KR, simple as that.

This is another significant date for information technology.
On this day in 1927, the first long distance television broadcast is made when a broadcast of an image of Herbert Hoover is made in the US.
On this day in 1969, the Internet is considered to have been born with the publication of RFC 1.

Today my journey into seafood has continued with me trying sushi for the first time. I tried some smoked salmon sushi which I thought was very tasty!

I would not be at all surprised if the World Cup is cancelled altogether, or at least in it's current form. It may be if course that those mushrooms I had for breakfast, or that ergot-infected muesli ditto to blame, but I'm fully expecting Las Vegas to figure somehow in a re-jigged competition.
The easiest format would be for there to be a European Championship and a Pacific Championship and the winners play each other in a one off game for the world cup, in Vegas if it has to feature.

Best wishes George! I live with seizures too and I know how scary they can be but I'm sure you'll recover quickly!

Ah i see thanks for that Goose. I love the film Sergeant York but i think i have only seen it on terrestrial tv once. My Pa used to love Gary Cooper.
Yeah, a lot of these really small channels operate on tiny budgets as you can imagine, so if they can get a lot of content for very little money then that's great.
I think it was Talking Pictures TV, that @Futtocks mentions, that I saw a documentary about where it said the channel is genuinely just operated out of a man's spare bedroom. He had a large collection of old films and TV series and decided to create the channel to show them, and people now quite often send him rare old films and TV to show.

Looking at the films on terrestrial tv it seems as if the channels that show movies only have around fifteen films between the lot of them. Some of the films are great as i love B&W movie, but i often think there have been thousands of films made from the 1930’s onwards. Does anyone know why there isn’t much choice!!!!.
Essentially because the rights to all these older films have lapsed and so these channels don't have to pay anyone for them to be allowed to screen them. This is why you can legally watch loads and loads of old films on YouTube but streams of newer films put up are immediately taken down.

I've heard from people who were supposed to attend the GB tour, that they had been warned about leaving the complex because of the high crime rates and if you were to do so, not to do it without an armed guard... I don't think it warrants watching a game of league.
I've heard this kind of thing, I know the British government do actually advise against all travel to PNG but the games still looked fantastic there!

I volunteered in 2013 and travelled independently in 2017 to follow Wales in PNG, Townsville and Perth - then on to Wellington, and Brisbane - 7 weeks. I'd planned ahead for France and was one of the reasons I bought a motorhome! Now those plans are scuppered I'm still hoping to go to RLWC 2026 - and sincerely hope the International game gets its act together pretty soon.
I'd love to hear about your experience of PNG. The games in Port Moresby really were a highlight of that world cup, the atmosphere came across as absolutely electric on tv and a real carnival atmosphere. It really made me want to see a game there at least once in my life.

A ban on trawlers fishing for sandeels in the North Sea has come into force today and it is hoped this will boost bird numbers on the east coast, particularly puffin and kittiwake populations. This can only be a positive!
