I hadn't heard of this film so just looked it up and saw it has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes! That's not something you see very often! Of course I decided for myself it must be rubbish when I saw Robert Patrick is in it.

It has a very strange format.....Travolta narrates his own story of a very cliched whiskey drinking and smoking detective

Because such big people are in it we got through it....

A few booked for me this year. Quite mor really in the main though. In date order (so far)

    Miles Hunt

    The Killers

    Embrace/Ash/Cud/Sleeper/OCS

    Noel Gallagher

    Shed Seven

Lack of gigs at the Piece Hall this year, in part due to the artists and in part due to the ridiculous ticket prices.

Wow Sleeper are going again are they?

Used to have a real thing for Louise

Slightly off topic, but are the Aussies missing a trick by playing their State of Origin on a Wednesday instead of a Saturday?

Would they not have a better chance of getting a global audience if they moved it?

I just looked up the dates, but it's 1105am on three Wednesdays, so I didn't bother adding it to my calendar. Whereas I would definitely watch it if it was on a Saturday.

I'm sure they have their own reasons, but I wonder if in future they'll consider playing it at the weekend.

The reasons will be so that players can 'choose' to rejoin and play for thier clubs at the weekend ....and also to allow weekend NRL to continue?

On this point - if you were going to work with an agency to create a new brand, you would probably be more likely to go with something like this. See Northern Superchargers in The Hundred (not pushing that as a good brand btw!), or Southern Brave in that same comp.

There may be an argument that if you were going to look to create something new and fresh to fill this space that you wouldn't try and play on the old fashioned War of the Roses piece and you'd use modern names that maybe don't focus on the place names, particularly when one of those place names is largely irrelevant.

    Eastern Superchargers Vs Western Brave

Personally I'm still convinced the historic Roses thing is something that can be worked with

I disagree that Lancs Cricket brand is based really around the county. They are a strong club that has been around for 150 years and have built themselves up over that time. I don't think anyone would start up a club with that name now.

The Lancs point isn't a showstopper, but genuinely think about it - it's weird. This is something that has the challenge of being outdated and the proposal is to use a county name that doesn't include Wire, Saints, Widnes, Wigan, Leigh, Salford etc - pretty much all the places you would play the games, get players from and expect support from. As an idea on paper it's a bit bizarre.

If this was a brand new idea, what would the pitch be for it? It would be really odd. I'm a 45 year old bloke and have never had Lancs in my address, but am absolutely the target market for this rep side.

    East Vs West?

I’m so glad I’ve never seen Dwyer in a Wigan shirt. He must be the most frustrating player to have in your side.

    Winning score from him incoming.

Dwyer is either brilliant or stupid....he swings between the two....often in the same bloody set!

I guess his last tackle runs from dummy half look brilliant when they pay off but they can't overall be the best percentage play (if someone were to statistically look into it)

I thought it was a decent game, but I am surprised to see so many rating it up there with the games of the season. There was a lot of passion, big defence etc. but there was a limited amount of attacking skill on show from both teams imo. For long spells, defences were on top, with a very slow ruck area, and its reflected in the 5 clean breaks that were made.

Now come on Dave .....we are in it for the drama more than the technicalities! And I'm terms of too-ing and fro-ing it had the lot

Probably helps that I quite like both teams so didn't have a team I wanted to lose

Your mob in the crowd along with the away support made it come across fantastically well on telly too

It does look like Laurent Frayssinous will be able to pick his strongest side with full cooperation from Toulouse -- and it could be a great event, with a big crowd. It would be a shame to discourage supporters by talking this event down.

Sylvain Houles, Toulouse coach, said: 'I have spoken to Laurent and he will take any of our players that he chooses. Of course every player wants to play for his country and I fully support that.' He he added 'We will be clear with our players that the priority is the French team.' Cedric Garcia (Director of Sport at Toulouse) and Olivier DuBois (Toulouse Chairman) see the triple header as a great way to attract media attention and to grow the sport. Dominique Baloup,  FFRXIII President, has long seen this event as key in the celebration of 90 years of French rugby league and in the promotion of the sport in France.

It would be great to make the Toulouse vs Featherstone match as French as possible, with Toulouse using their dual reg with Catalans to bolster their squad. This could be a very special day for French rugby league. It would also be great to build the game up as much as possible and to hear the French clubs repeat, and repeat, and repeat as early as possible and as publicly as possible that all players will be available for French and that they can't wait to get stuck into this challenge.

    Superb post

If that side is out then I'll be very excited to see the match

    2.Fouad Yaha
    3.Arthur Romano
    4.Matthieu Laguerre
    5.Zenon, Miloudi, Escaré
    6.Theo Fages
    7.Cesar Rougé
    8.Romain Navarette
    9.Alrix Da Costa
    10.Julian Bousquet
    11.Paul Seguier
    12.Mickael Goudemand
    13.Benjamin Garcia

    14.Tison, Marion, Lacans
    15.Justin Sangaré
    16.Jordan Dezaria
    17.Maxime Stefani

Don’t know if Amir Borouh will play for France but he would a good player to have.

Pretty strong 17, defenintly needs work in the outside backs but spine looks strong and middle looks very solid aswell.

I highly doubt the England test will be anything like last year, I think France have a decent shot at this game. Still would be a miracle if they won but I think there’s a chance.

Is Corentin Le Cam back in league?

Seem to remember he had a very good second half in the last test held in France

Expect 5/6 of those to be pulled

If that happens then I think that may well be it for me with supporting the French mid season test

We don't see England do it ...there is no way say George Williams or Newman will let themselves get pulled by Wire or Leeds

The French players themselves need to call out any bull**** and say they need to play for their country

That first 17 is a very competitive side that in France will give England a very good fixture

If any French clubs want to spoil it they don't deserve the support of holding a test in their country (and the subsequent support for their sport in their country )

I think the thing we all seem to agree on is that RL in the UK needs some kind of event.
The NRL has Origin, RU has the 6 Nations, Cricket has lots of Internationals plus events like the 100.

The RFL just need to organise something and put the time, effort and money into making it a success. I’m sure if there was a WOTR or a regional tiered competition, a series against France or a 3/4 N including England then if it is marketed well and bought into by the players and clubs then it could be built into something big

Isn't our event the Challenge Cup?

The union equivalent (Thier Prem cup) is more or less a second team event now (well until the final.....and even then the Worcester win over Irish that I went to was not a sell.out at Brentford)

I'm all for having Roses / rep game as an addition though

Did it make you angry enough to train for a coaching badge and become the coach in future ?

Don't need the badge - all the dads take it in turn to regularly do the linesman job at matches if one of the other dads isn't already doing it  ....the coach of each team referees usually - it's under 12s

In addition for the team I ....

    - Wheel the goals out and help set them up - probably 20 minutes job each training and home match at the begining and end

    - Mark out the pitch for all pre home games . 30 minute job night before game

    - I coordinate the home pitch liaison with schools (ongoing in year and lengthy)

    - Collect and drop offs in my own car for kids who can't get a lift (usually two at least a week)

    - Take orders for all kit, order the personalisation, sort money and deliveries ...(Hours and hours that takes through preseason)

-Step in as assistant coach when the coach/ assistant away ...in reality I am not a soccer man so it's setting up cones etc

Overall - I do plenty to support / volunteer in the amateur game my kids are involved in ....I practice what I preach

And yes if the main coach/assistant  were to leave I strongly suspect I would need to take the badges and do that myself ....and I would unflinchingly

On a separate note I watch amateur RL down here and there regularly isnt always a Linesmen.....I have never once moaned about it......partly as I am aware I would be a very good candidate to do it myself if I wasn't committed to my kids activities

I have stated on here before when I retire I fully intend to get my RL badges and ref at the weekends (truthfully)

True...but I'm sure there are some posters on here who can make good refs and touch judges.

I have never and never will give stick to refs as a viewer of amateur sport (umpires on cricket too)....had the odd moment as a player but not too bad

When watching top pro.sport I'd say I feel differently .....if I see a mistake I'm happy.to call it

I'd never advocate abuse /personal stuff or swearing at refs.....a loud moan or boo though I'm not against (again in pro.sport.only)
