For those who need introducing to top quality series*and those just wanting to repeat top quality:

Life on Mars / 2series; total 16 episodes

Ashes to Ashes /3 series; total 24 episodes

Set in and around Manchester in 1973 and Ashes, London 1981, but made around 2008/10
Available on BBCIPlayer only for 10 days, and Life currently available on Amazon Prime, depending on location; Ashes, I think available widely.   Enjoy.

    * not always ‘pc’, so to speak!

Sometimes , I've known programmes on iplayer go down to 3 or 4 days , then renew for another year .

    Headline from Bild.de:

    "Wembley cheating again"

Apparently there was a clear handball not given. News to me who watched the whole thing.

I thought it was players and officials that cheat , not stadiums , has Wembley Stadium got a consciousness , if so , we better warn everybody inside .

Nadal has withdrawn, after suffering an abdominal tear, which sounds remarkably nasty. This puts Dick "Nickhead" Kyrgios into the final. The ghastly brat's going to win the bloody title, isn't he?

Never write off Djokovic , but Djokovic doesn't seem himself lately , in fact he hasn't seemed himself since he won Wimbledon last year . Hopefully , Djokovic or Norrie can win it .

Certainly Sean Bean was at the Battle of Vitoria but he was just one of 90,000 coalition troops that were definitely commanded by Wellington, trust me I've checked in the book, Sharpe's Honour, and everything. 😊

Never mind the book , I've seen it on TV , Sharpe was captured by the French , he escaped , ran to the front line , steadied the line , swished his sword about and the French were defeated 🤣

On this day in 1813, the Duke of Wellington's coalition forces defeats the army of Joseph Bonapatre at the Battle of Vitoria, which would turn out to be the decisive battle of the Peninsular War.

On this day in 1919, Admiral Ludwig von Reuter scuttles the German fleet at Scapa Flow in the Orkney Islands. The nine sailors that died are the last casualties of the First World War.

I thought that was Sean Bean not Wellington .

At least it will mean the end of Gareth Southgate being in charge.

I think we should appoint a high profile foreign coach , never mind the cost , just give him what he wants , its bound to bring success .

I'm sorry I don't always answer as quickly as I'd like but being the other side of the world means I'm often asleep while someone makes a comment about something I've posted..

From the 1960/61 season, points for the League are 6,3,2,1. FA Cup 4,2. League Cup 3,1. That's 22 points in total per season. European comps has a similar system. Rochdale were the losing side in the 1962 League Cup final. Oldham and Tranmere the same but in 1976 and 1990. Rotherham 1961 and Bradford 2013. Oxford United won it in 1986. The league Cup has given some clubs the chance for a finals appearance which is surely prized by those clubs.

Didn't you fancy doing it from 1889 onwards 😂

How are points awarded ? I take it that Rochdale , Oldham , Tranmere , Rotherham and Bradford are awarded 1 point each for reaching the League Cup final .

  11. Gerrard will want to finish as high as possible in the table , Villa are currently 14th , a win tonight could take them up to 11th , Villa will go all out for a win tonight and only then concentrate on the Man City match , unfortunately , I think Burnley will get something from tonight's match , whether that's a win or a draw .

The Forest/Sheff U game is a cracker, what a comeback by the blades.

Forest should have been out of sight , by half time in the first leg , but tonight , Sheff Utd look like a totally different team ,

Yes - this would be c.1987. 1988 at a push.

I've just checked and their average this season is their highest for 20 years.

Yes about then . Going slightly off topic , when Man City left Maine Road , weren't Stockport interested in taking over the stadium .

It is incredible the increase in support that so many clubs are seeing across the board. I have a memory of going to see Stockport 'back in the day' and there being well under 3,000 there for a Football League match.

I can remember back in the mid to late 80s . before they went on their good run to the second tier , anything over 2500 would be a good crowd .
