  1. To quote John Cooper Clarke, "Quicker than lager turns to p!sh." When Wakey does open the new stand, it will make the West terrace look even worse. Its crumbling, it's encased with grime and out in the open. To quote the Bard of Salford again, to me: "Its like a night club in the morning." But even so stay up lads.
  2. At a guess, I'd think professionalism of Elite 1, youth development and maybe how they integrate with the RFL.
  3. This needs Harry Stottle to muse on this. Both Kok up and Konspiracy if it's SRD and RFL. Remember the RFL once miscalculated the number of non Fed players at Solly?!
  4. You were one of the missing 4000 then? Albeit Tony you have a very good reason to be away. The warmth of the sun or shivering next to the ship canal? Ah so Jack Deardon. There was a sense of end of the summer , if not end of the season at times last night. Certainly Jack can add a end of the pier sense on occasion. Good man. At least yer man can count, which seemingly the RFL can't. I am hoping for more than one win.
  5. Erm First it's the RFL and second it involves them and Salford. Normal business continuing.
  6. Tony, the girls and myself were there and , whilst your deconstruction makes it seem close, in hindsight it wasn't so and on other occasions the score would have been greater. First pleasing matter is that the game wasn't decided by (coughs) a "curious" refereeing decision. Hurrah! Second the play-got so frantic in the second half it almost felt like a sevens game or nines if you prefer. And those pitch side LED ad screens might gather Scooby snack points with IMG, but they glare harshly on yer eyes. At one time, a brilliant incandescent white turned the players into shadows. Sort of like an artsy Hebden Bridgesque physical theatre in silhouette. Yup. The attendance was shocking. 4000 were missing, but be honest so was Wakefield sadly. And yup, I too would rather Wakey stay up as at least that new stand shows some (albeit belated) desire to live in the 1990s at least. Unlike some others eh! Plus their supporters seem a fine bunch. Now for us Reds, that win was essential. The thrills, spills and belly aches carry on. Next up. Back to yer Wigan. Fun n' games, erm. As Curtis says "Move on Up!"
  7. Well the answer to this question is how the AFL and the GAA went. Plus where do you play Aussie rules if you want you and me to watch? I can't imagine pro County cricket grounds volunteering in season. Perhaps a better analogy would be Lacrosse as at least that is played by "natives" here in Europe as opposed to Aussie exiles. To digress I once thought Lacrosse to be analogy for the Toronto Wildcats experiment. As an analogy, I wonder what if the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) had sort an English franchise for their competition. Would it proceed like the Wildcats into failure, or would it been different? I wonder.
  8. Those International Rules games were nothing more than Friday night after the pub closes brawls and pretty much killed off any future Australia against Ireland challenges. https://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/gaa/international-rules-series-postponed-indefinitely-21816239 So the assumption is this would repeat itself in Britain. Ouch!
  9. Christchurch with some one off on the roads games in Wellington. North Island/Te Ika e Māui- NZ Warriors South Island/Te Waipounamu - NZ (Insert appropriate moniker) Add Perth/Adelaide (yes)/extra Qld club. 21 clubs, three sections-Qld invitation/Sydney City/ANZAC trophies-12 games One off round robin of teams in other sections-14 games Plays off and Grand Final.
  10. No! I enjoy the trips to Huddersfield. A much younger Haggis once strode out from the Train station and spied an extremely attractive equally salad dayed fellow travellers. She looked at the Haggis, thought he looks interesting and smiled. As it happens, a connection was made. I knew straight away, she and me were up to visit the University to be interviewed. Feeling uncharacteristically generous, I ordered a taxi and we chatted and chatted. We went into our interviews and to my surprise she waited for me afterwards. We giddily walked back to the station. We exchanged numbers and I promised to ring her, confident in that the Uni had offered us both places and this was only the start. Unfortunately I soon lost that telephone number and it continued speeding onwards after I'd got off the train in Manchester. I never saw her again, as I stayed in work and chose to do Uni (smuggly a much grander one) much later in those cabbage green days. So every time I come to Huddersfield, I am calmly warmed by "what if." I sort of fancy the thought she is there, a matured version in the Giants throng, her son perhaps playing for the claret and gold. If I was "Clare" then I would not panic about the Giants. Even though he is a foolish disciple of Boris, Mr Davy is cute enough to see the Watson Wave is a long term project. IW promotes a methodical game plan (not my poison as you know, but) supplemented by dashes of magic. Unfortunate those magicians are Tui and Connors, who blow cold and hot in equal measures. I just dont understand why Pryce aint there, is he cropped? Meanwhile the equally mercurial Rowley-ball rolls on in its ever unpredictable fashion. Giants looked asleep, Devils appeared active. Like an orchestra, they spent the first 20 odd minutes, grasping to get in tune, but once they did, they let that music erm speak. Not quite classic Rowley-ball, but there was fine moments. For a change, the "middles" bossed a much bigger pack, Singleton looked smart as you'd hope, Brierley continues his transformation, whilst Deon Cross enthused why he deserved an enhanced contract with some mighty stats and lastly after weeks of despondency, it seems the team is getting better. And perhaps unlike "Clare" and myself, the romance carries on. Solly back in the play offs!?! Next up Trinity. Bring it on.
  11. Two bald men fighting over a comb, Sollys and Fartowners arguing over attendances. My hope when I do my reflection on Saturday is- a. There is no maddening referee decisions again. b. And SRD do themselves credit.
  12. Obsessed. This is bar Dupree (Wigan acquired) and Wright (Saints assaulted) the full '23 version of Rowley-ball. So comparisons all round on whether Salford are progressing or not. Incredibly after seven soul sapping defeats, SRD are still in the hunt to qualify for the play offs. So surely sufficient motivation you'd hope. Ah hope is what dies last. With the local Conservatives trying to thwart Salford council acquiring in full the AJ Bell stadium, perhaps it's time for the Reds to take on another Tory eejit tomorrow.
  13. Nah surely SL of 12 and a Championship of 10. Give the Band Cs motivation to step up to Bs to fill the remainder spots in the Championship, I propose. Personally I feel the certain A's will be Wigan, Saints, Leeds.and Catalans Probable A's-Warrington, Huddersfield and FC. Inevitable B's, with aspirations for A's- Salford, KR, Toulouse, Leigh Castleford, Wakefield, London, Newcastle, Widnes, York, Halifax, Sheffield, Featherstone, Bradford and another in or out of the B's. The rest are C's.
  14. The issue with a Roses game for me is that the necessary levels of enthusiasm lies mostly on the right hand side of the Pennines. With very little beside the Irish Sea. Identity in modern "historic" Lancashire tends to be more localized in the towns or cities ie Mancs, etc. The desire appears one sided in my opinion. Second, for many it would feel insular and a retreat to pre-SL days. I won't fully dismiss the idea. At Academy, u-19s et al, even say Championship level it has merits. Even as a low key England trial game, it would be fine. Just don't see the advantages at senior/tier one/SL level. However my feelings are very much different about an annual Bastille Day England (Knights) against France challenge match lodged on the continent. That should be a given.
  15. Well I was throwing out a hugely speculative idea of RFL Bonds as a mechanism to raise monies in order to invest or for clubs/organisations to access. So hypothetical numbers - average SL gate - 8,000 x 12 x £10 each equals £960,000 each year. Imagine if it had been in operation since Season I of SL (Minus tax, bond repayment plus any interest if monies loaned out and interest from it being an industrial fund.) But also imagine if we had the kind of competent folk at the top who could make such a highly speculative project, but grounded both in theory and practice, successful.
  16. The other aspect is reducing costs through collective action. Regional academies Joint contracts - merchandise, match f and d, accountancy, etc Problem of course all this requires is a competent robust RFL. Dream on.
  17. "Fund raising," does sort of provoke thoughts of dippy Women's Institute's raffle, a sponsored swim and paramilitary clad kids doing a Scouting "Bob-a-Job" for some kindly pensioners in the Cotswolds. However thinking about generating Rugby League's revenue streams is a great thread discussion, whatever you call it. The Sport's main streams are of course, match day revenues, broadcast rights, advertising/sponsorship, merchandise, membership, etc. So the first instances is to increase amounts from these, Ie more supporters through the doors, classier better value sponsorship and so on. I presume that is why IMG have been brought aboard. The other I think you are pondering about langidds is new streams. I had a chat with a former neighbour who works as a "fund raiser" for a soccer club, and this is what we came up with- First countless football clubs and now Salford have gone for membership ownership. If SRD's 5000 supporters can raise just short of £400k, then how much would sit in a Fund had it been supported by all SL supporters since 1997. Levy on match day tickets, centrally collected. £2m? £200m? Sporting Bonds. See above. Better utilization of club facilities. Targeted specific crowd funding projects Match day buckets E sports Paid opportunities for kids with training sessions. Interest from RFL loans to develop grounds. Create a mega RL Development fund. A levy on match day ticket revenue centrally collectively and either equally distributed. Specific investment- stadium development etc Add your own ideas..........
  18. Eddie Mann and Howard Copitch, both from Salford City Radio and I think - like alot of broadcasters do now- record their shows here and transfer them electronically to the erm "mother ship." And bonus, you will be pleased to know the mammy has listened to Atlantis for all its sixties stuff. That and Boom. Which is now really going off thread isn't it.
  19. The fairly strong class system of England, is the basis of two rugby codes, in my opinion. So unless that can be butterflied away, I struggle to see how unity could have existed. But just imagine the Victorian RU is hijacked by public school boys from the City and Empire who can see brass - than Classically trained purists dreaming of an English Corinth - then maybe a more overt "Shamatuer" type arrangement would have roughly occurred. Ironically 1930s France might have been where a "Rugby League" might have been born.
  20. Pretty impressed with the "get it done" attitude of all concerned. All the best I say!!! Atlantisman, I'd go for the Dutch v Serbia at Zwolle if you want to also go to Harlingen. The other nearest two are across the Ijsselmeer and a 2 hour journey depending on traffic. Zaandam is just across the water from Amsterdam mind you. Mind me asking are we talking about KBC or Seagull? The latter has a couple of Salford lads broadcasting with them.
  21. Ha ha. I agree but come on dont be like that. Better to put on some evidence (even if blurry and originally posted by slightly barking myopic punters) than not. A ref's job is hard. We can-if we want-make their lives easier. Anyway that Saints first try reminded of this. Seriously we need to support our refs more.
  22. Yes it is an issue. It at times feels that there are noticeably different interpretations regarding "robust" play, offside, the penalty try, knocka ons and In or out of touch. Decision Not in Touch Above "Robust" play. Decision No penalty play on. Below. Tackling an opponent, Decision No penalty. Forward Pass. Decision No penalty
  23. Cheers I appreciate that Phiggins. Yeah number one should be things cost money, especially good things. Any enhancement needs investment. Our refs deserve this. That other code enjoys a greater and at times more intrusive role for its TMOs. I'd likewise wish our Touch Judges could have an enhanced part to indicate on field decisions especially the 10 m and offside Laws aside from using their flags.
  24. My opinion. Having run it over and over. Knowles forwarded it skull height (?!) Had he'd directed it backwards then it would have bounced likewise off Sneyd's heid. Marc E. dragged yer Saint around and in that moment Knowles either knocked on or passed intentionally or unintentionally forward and that momentum carried the ball behind Sneyd. it's all incidental now. It's really not about that moment, the result but how we can better support our refs. Forward. it ain't backwards. I will post all the positives from last Friday's Co-Owners meeting at another time.
