Featherstone - Boom or Bust by the looks of it
Bobby123 replied to The Daddy's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
You can only allocate the surrounding population to the number of amateur and pro" clubs, which are numerous and are located within a ten mile radius. Even though the extending of the housing market within this radius has increased, it does not indicate that the influx of residents support or are the least bit interested in the game. Let us be honest, most clubs are finding it hard at the moment. -
Surely, Turner, Don Vines and Len Marston must have left their old knee pads in the changing rooms?.
-
In my younger playing days (amateur), the team manager had to notify the referee prior to the game, the colours we were playing in. The leagues were very strict with regard to this. I think that the influence of TV and modern day fashions have made their mark upon the sport, for none the better, viz Leigh.

A matter of opinion owd lad

Not the least bit interested. More worrying things in the UK to think about.

Being a staunch, and die hard supporter is to be confirmed when a solid group of about a dozen made the daily trip over to Scarborough over many weeks in order to dismantle, load up and transport the modern stands and floodlights from the defunct soccer club followed by the rebuilding at PO Road. That is what I classify as being a supporter. Come on FEV.

Thats what rugby is (and was) all about. They will be refusing to play in sludge, next. -
Relative who is partially sighted almost mowed down by one as he walked around a corner. Never heard a thing.

Book thread: what are you reading?
Bobby123 replied to Futtocks's topic in Any Other Business / Any Other Sports
Reading about the Osage tribe of Indians in the USA ( author Grann) Concerns how the government kicked the Osage tribe off their lands in the 17 century little knowing that they had moved them onto the largest oil bearing lands in the country, resulting in the tribe becoming millionaires overnight. This resulted in the government once again attempting to remove the Osage by murder and intimidation, led by Edgar. J. Hoover and ultimately, the death of the tribe. A little known black era in the history of the "proud" USA. -

Watched ted them play up here in Yorkshire at start of last season. Good potential and attitude. -
The ridiculous results leading up to this semi probably put everyone into a "comfort zone"., plus the fact that some of the players selected have not been breaking any pots for their clubs. This result may and should shed a new light on the game.

Lot of young uns today not up to it. Took a lot of pressure to get them underground.

Best game of the series, up to press, IMO. Bit of niggling and putting it about a bit along with some good rugby. Really sorry for the Fijian lads. They gave everything and certainly put the opposition off their game. -

My apologies. The word should state "with the exception " of the disabled groups. -

A little bit difficult to change the rules due to the fact there are only about four or five world teams that are "dominant". Might as well get shut of the competition with the exemption of the disabled groups. -

Bit of a shambles IMO. Majority of games, boring and very predictable and is a poor reflection upon our game, especially as Greece were forbidden to play the game in their own country, prior to their selection. Sorry, not good enough. -
Would make lovely "throws" for my arm chairs.

The worlds gone crazy. We have worse troubles in the world requiring attention than taking umbrage about someones opinions.

What about personal protection plans ?. My grandson plays on a regular basis and is covered with such a plan.

Has anyone taken into account the amateur game?.

Being 88yrs of age and having been a keen fan for many of them, I have always been convinced that throughout, we have lacked good centres.
