  1. Yes - he played for Italy in the last Rugby League World Cup.
  2. York Acorn vs Wath Brow should be a cracking game and good for one of them to advance to the 5th round and a decent pay day.
  3. With York Acorn vs Wath Brow Hornets in the 4th round we will have at least one NCL team in the 5th round. Hope the winner gets a decent pay day.
  4. Barrows kicks to Havens in goal area were very well judged and forced a number of drop outs. The high kicks in open play were also well challenged by Barrow but the majority of times the Barrow players were offside as the kicker was the back man and did not run forward to put the others on side and they never allowed the Haven full back the required 10 yards. Barrow were bright enough to realize this and kept doing it as they were not getting penalised. Haven should have done the same but Cresswell was never put under pressure to field high kicks. The game was generally played in a good spirit and the only incident was when Broadbent put his head into Romeo who reacted by pushing Broadbent and giving Barrow the penalty that resulted in the key 6 points. I dont think that it was intentional by Broadbent.
  5. Meant to say 1,500 crowd for Town vs Haven (not Barrow).
  6. No - a number of best 2nd place teams from the groups also go through to make up the last 8. With York & Wakefield in a group with Newcastle its highly likely that they will both qualify from that group. Its also a chance for a decent crowd at Town (much needed revenue) as the 901 that attended the Barrow game was very poor. Would expect at least 1,500 crowd for Town vs Barrow even if Barrow have already won both their games.
  7. Notice all 3 West Cumbrian teams are drawn away (again). Barrow get a home tie against Oldham which could prove difficult.
  8. Batley average 700 to 800 for home games but it is a good day out for visiting fans. They are a well run club and achieve more than many better supported teams. They make visiting fans very welcome.
  9. Think crowd was about 1200 with about 50 from Barrow. Would have been more if the other mini bus had not broken down on Corney Fell.
  10. Early days but with Oldham & Keighley both beating Championship sides, League 1 may be very competitive this season at the top end and not easy to gain promotion from. At least Town battled to the end with 2 late tries.
  11. See some Barrow fans are claiming on their forum that they have such a good squad this season that they will easily wipe the floor with other Cumbrian teams this season. Trust Town put up a good show as Barrow have won all 4 of their pre season games but all have been at home to lower league teams - their first venture out of Barrow will be on Sunday.
  12. Bishop should be a quality player in League 1 as he was near to man of match every game he played last year in the Championship for Haven. The big problem was getting him on the pitch on a regular basis with his serious injury problems. Hope he has an injury free season for you as he is a very good player.
  13. Hope Barrow fans travel up for both their games in West Cumbria as last years game at Haven was very light on Barrow fans given that it was on a Monday night and on TV. Not sure if the games are shared gate or not but always loads of Town and Haven fans travel to Barrow for the games. Hopefully all Cumbrian teams fans support the games.
  14. Brandon Moore has signed for Batley.
  15. Article seems to have a somewhat Yorkshire bias as usual - last year they were tipping Keighley for a top 4 finish and look at what happened to them. Doncaster only scraped promotion and Dewsbury are a bit of a yo-yo club so despite what appears like decent signings they will still be in the scrap with at least 4 other teams (including Barrow & Haven) to avoid relegation. Hopefully plans for Championship & League 1 in 2025 are fully clarified before the 2024 season kicks off. Could be a very competitive Championship this year apart from Wakefield.
