  1. Her skills look completely compatible - she has genuine size and enough pace to excel in whatever version of 'rugby' she chooses.
  2. Yep, I remember a player like Graham Steadman could get up to speed very quickly (and in the mud), and this would often take him through 1 or 2 attempted tackles straight away.
  3. I've seen RL and football at the old Wembley - no real surprise there, and I actually went to Odsal to watch Stock Cars in 82-83 before the first time I went there to watch RL. I've seen both codes of rugby played on the opposite code's pitches many times but rarely seen both at the same stadium /pitch funnily enough.
  4. The Forces definitely supported 'traditional' sports. My father in-law did his national service after WW2 and spent the whole time either playing cricket, or travelling to and from matches. As a keeper-batsman he was lucky enough to make the main Army team.
  5. RU – I fell into this game almost by accident as it was the only football code played at my high school. I was quite good at it despite being a late starter and played at a good amateur level until my late 20s. I don’t watch regularly other than 6N matches which have a good buzz about them. I’ll watch some highlights etc when I’ve got a few minutes to kill. Soccer – I quite enjoyed playing it, it’s my youngest lad’s main sport [though he showed ability with a rugby ball none of his mates play unfortunately, could have been a mobile hard-working prop]. I don’t like the culture above the community level. I quite enjoyed British teams doing well in the early 80s, there was something great about teams from working class areas achieving at the highest level. Gridiron – can be a great game, I drift in and out of watching bits of it. A full match is a long watch for sure! AFL – meh! I’ve tried watching it, and it’s probably my least favourite code. Gaelic Football, other Celtic games – good fun, I’ve just never had a team to follow, or known of a player that required me to take an interest. Definitely better than AFL for me, loads of potential I think. I still rate RL the top spectator code.
  6. I'm guessing it's related to the position of the sockets for the goalposts.
  7. I've not found it anywhere, got the BBC radio coverage on at the moment.
  8. When golden point actually makes sense. I enjoyed that as a neutral.
  9. Apologies if it's a daft question, but what is the usual timeframe when Sky move a match in this way? It's not something I've taken much notice of before.
  10. Wonderful display from Harry Smith, really good from most of Wigan team. Their props have looked mobile and very fit. Leeds weak across the back row of the scrum and centres, and needing a dominant figure in the front row for the others to play off. Big Mik hasn’t quite got back to the form from before his shoulder injury.
  11. Just a couple of impressions from me, which may not stand up to statistical analysis: In general I don't think the sport of RL is run any worse than the other 2 large football codes in the UK - both are reliant on rich benefactors or considerable support from the education system, government etc which make them seem "bigger fish". While there is room for improvement I think the product on the pitch is good enough to sustain itself given the correct promotion and support. Despite coming from the heartlands I never got to play RL at school (other than the occasional PE/games lesson) and only played properly when I went to University in Wales!
  12. Rhinos to win by a single score margin in front of noisy 'home' support at Elland Road.
