Just finished watching the last episode of series two of 'Les Revenants.' Loved every minute, even if the second series was a bit complicated. And as with the first series, great soundtrack by Mogwai. -

Book thread: what are you reading?

Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King, not for the supernatural stuff, but for the way he has captured the essence of lost childhood and of growing older. It becomes more relevant the older I get! (I have read it umpteen times) -

As a Batley supporter, I too am amazed that Rooney is in the team. It seems to me that Briggs should be there as he has had an outstanding season it would seem. I also think that Thackray and Handforth have been outstanding in this position this year.

Featherstone V Barrow. Sun 22nd Aug. 3PM
distantdog replied to Stratobill's topic in Featherstone Rovers
Featherstone finished top of an 11 team league where each team played each other home and away in all conditions and only lost two games. The play off is a handicapped 6 team competition with everything going in certain teams favour. To me, as a Batley supporter, Featherstone Rovers are the CC Champions for 2010, regardless of what the RFL decree or what happens in the play-offs. I hope you win the Play-offs, pocket the money and walk away as overall champions which you rightly are. -

Who would you pick for the Northern Rail 9's
distantdog replied to jprover's topic in Featherstone Rovers
I don't think this is right. The groups of 4 play the teams in their group, in a round robin format. The two groups of 3 play teams from both mini leagues. This makes up, in effect, 4 mini leagues. That is my understanding, but of course could be completely wrong. -
well that's ok then.
-
I absolutely agree Robin, but it isn't as cut and dried as everyone would believe. I would fancy our chances against anyone from our division at home, and I bet Sheffield would think the same. As usual in our division, anything can and usually does happen.
-
Stop your whinging! What exactly is unfair about it? There are 5 other teams still in this competition besides the two you mentioned, who might have a say in it. Enjoy your time at the top of the division, hope it continues.

Indeed we were. They really are a massive side. Thomas Bosc would be a hard running second rower in any other teams. It was always likely to be tough, but moreso with their huge guys running at us for the final 20 minutes downhill. Still, as a Batley supporter, it was great to have a real mix of supporters up at the Mount, and thanks for coming.

I was baffled why that decision was not a penalty to Toulouse because he gave the scrum for Morrison passing the ball out after he had called held! I think you are right, Featherstone were poor in the second half and made so many mistakes going uphill. I actually agreed with the double movement because to me his ball carrying arm touched the ground then he seemed to clearly make a second effort to get the ball over the line.
-
So which decisions looked baffling?
-
Spot on Robin. Both teams will be still here for the next 2, 3 4 or more years. I am sad to say, but I suspect that both Featherstone and Barrow probably do not figure very highly in the RFL's expansionist future. All that the clubs at Championship level can do is to make any future decisions on the structure of the game as uncomfortable as possible for the RFL.

It's interesting after seeing both yourselves and Leigh now, I would give you the slight edge as I think you have a little more flair than them. They are big, well organised and have a strong defence, but they had far more of the ball against us than you did, and perhaps should have scored more with that extra flair. Paul organises them well, and Duffy was effective coming off of the bench. It will be an interesting one when you do play them!
-
Ignore all that nonsense and enjoy yourselves. You are obviously playing great rugby at the moment and credit should be given for that. Not all teams were injury hit, jet-lagged, off form, still gelling etc etc when you played them. I for one am delighted you are beating the others (with the exception of Batley, who were injury hit, jet-lagged, off form and still gelling!!!) and hope you enjoy success this season.

Well played Featherstone, you really outplayed us in every department, especially in the first half when we never turned up. You were very clinical and made the most of all of your chances. Thought that Kain, Briggs and Finn were excellent and provided some great shape to your team. Your forwards were really strong especially Morrison who had an outstanding game. despite the poor result it was another reaonably enjoyable day at POR, and there really were more than five of us left at the end
