  1. On the Wakefield/Cas ground share issue, do we assume that the RFL have indicated to these panic stricken clubs that their licenses will be renewed if they share a new stadium? If so, which other current SL club will have to go in order to make way for Widnes? It seems like one hell of a gamble to sacrifice their current homes without any such assurance from the RFL. What if one or both fail in their bids to remain in SL despite a shiny new stadium?
  2. Parky, I was a committee member/director/commercial manager at Featherstone for 28 years and I knew many many fans personally and became great friends with a lot of them. Distressingly a large proportion of those people do not watch Rovers any longer, BUT neither do they now watch local SL clubs. They are lost to the sport forever unless they can see some light at the end of the tunnel for Rovers to, one day, emerge from second tier football and challenge the best again. There is a lot of latent support out there and it staggers me that the RFL do not seem interested in targeting it. Supporters do and have walked away from the game in large numbers Parky. Of that there is no doubt whatsoever. Your belief to the contrary is misguided my friend.
  3. Come on then Rob, what's the rumour???
  4. Sorry Jon, but I don't see where I've said last week's aggregate has anything to do with it.
  5. Nearly twice last week's aggregate.
  6. Three of the remaining four, very tricky games. We need to be at our best to get the job done.
  7. Absolutely nowt to do with Rovers or RL but I just had to share this with you all. I've come across one or two right idiot wedding photographers but none as daft as this bloke. I wish I'd filmed it. Clear the ad in the top right corner to view the video. http://www.vidiload.com/index.php?page=vid...p;vid_id=102086
  8. Conversely likewise Dave, if that makes sense.
  9. My cynical mind tells me that it was announced to Widnes when chairman, Steve O'Connor requested a meeting about three weeks after the first set of licences were revealed. It was a bit like the meeting which Cas had with the RFL after they'd been relegated through Wigan's cheating of the salary cap. Everything went quiet, Terry Matterson immediately signed a 2 year extension even before they'd reached the GF, despite previously taking an age to decide whether the NL was good enough for him when Cas went down. Steve O'Connor has twice assured Widnes fans that their team will be in SL this time around. He wouldn't be stupid enough to do that if he hadn't been given a nodand a wink. So Robin get writing on that wall. The team going up starts with a W and is a cert. I hope and pray that the team coming down begins with the same letter.
  10. Repeat! The game belongs to everyone, not just the chosen few in the eyes of Lewis and Wood. I'm a RL fan with opinions just like everyone else on here. And I pride myself in being able to respect others who may have differing opinions, without having to resort to abrasive arrogance and bad manners.
  11. A fair and honest game for those who really do appreciate it is all I ask. Have we took over the world or do we look remotely to have taken even the smallest step towards doing so since you graced us with your presence in 1996? I have been following the game for a long time, apologies for being born so soon, and it's not my game, just the opposite, which is the crux of all this animosity. The game belongs to everyone, not just the chosen few in the eyes of Lewis and Wood.
  12. Interesting Paul. On the John Kear thread on the Leagues Express Forum, we're being told by a Rovers fan, amongst others, that we wouldn't be able to attract large enough crowds for SL. The comparison between the two games you mention above would be worth adding to that thread to see the reaction.
  13. So which ambitious Championship clubs can't get more than 800 to their home games?
  14. I give up. Your last post bears out all that I've said. Attendances were lower generally then than they are now so logically clubs such as Rovers could expect proportionate increases if allowed access to SL. John Kear has realised that Licensing is not the way forward and good on him for admitting he was mistaken. Thanks for your efforts in supplying the figures.
  15. What do you mean by 'even you will understand'? You really can't be civil when it comes to responding to my postings can you? I didn't ask anyone to work out average figures for all first division clubs and I definitely didn't ask you unless your initials are MD. I mentioned three, one of which, Leeds, you haven't covered anyway. With regard to derbies, it would appear that Wigan v Saints attracted 12172 and the reverse fixture at Knowsley Rd 9438 assuming they were the respective top gates of the two clubs. Much much lower than now. Yes, as I said, it is all relative to the particular era.
  16. That's interesting. I reckon it's probably very fair to say that based on those figures there's absolutely no reason at all why Rovers couldn't have matched or indeed bettered Wakefield's SL performance. We would have been averaging 6500 comfortably, in my opinion. But we'll never know for sure unless we are given the opportunity.
  17. Yes MD, what were Leeds, Saints, Bradford getting through the gates back then. It's all relative.
  18. Excellent analogy that Trojan. I like it. Wakefield have enjoyed 12 straight years in SL and I'd love to know what their averages were compared to Fev's immediately prior to SL. If they can do it I'm pretty sure Rovers and others could too.
