What Are You Listening To - The Reckoning

Recommended Posts

Slash's new album, it's very very good. Lots of different styles on it as you would expect when the guest vocalists range from Fergie (Black Eyed Peas), through Iggy Pop to Lemmy.

Best tracks are Crucify The Dead (with Ozzy), Ghost (with Ian Astbury) and Doctor Alibi (with Lemmy) but there really isn't a bad one on the album.

If you don't like this one, check your pulse because you are probably dead.

Marvellous, what a great album that is.

Crucify the dead?

WTF

what's the song about?

It's about Axl Rose and how he broke Guns n Roses up with his egotistical actions.

The fire started long ago

The flames burn down still embers glow

So charred and black

There's nothing left to burn, to burn

We had the same dream

Lived life to the extreme

A loaded gun jammed by a rose

The thorns a knot around your head

Your ego cursed you 'til you bled

You can not crucify the dead

To me you're dead, yeah

The future isn't set in stone

Decisions past leave you alone

Betrayed us all with your own selfish greed, your greed, yeah

New soldiers now stand

At your beck and command

Recruits they are bought and paid by you

The thorns a knot around your head

Your ego cursed 'til you bled

You can not crucify the dead

To me you're dead, yeah

We were like brothers with the world in our hands

You always have to much to say

Some days you look back and you'll wonder why

You let it all slip away, yeah

I’m not prejudiced, I hate everybody equally

Pearl Jam - Once (live at reading 2006)

Only a month till I see them live.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

I wasn't being smart there. Just a ho-hum rock-n-roll album. I used to like Guns n' Roses so this is like a bonus version as there is no screeching dwarf called Axl Rose singing on it :D

it's the kind of words that kevin the teenager would write in his bedroom.

think about say Louie Louie. That isn't great poetry, or even poetry, in fact it isn't much at all but it's miles better than stuff like that.

After watching the Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers documentary on BBC4 I must have listened to this track at least 20 times since. Refugee, possibly the greatest rock song ever written.

I like refugee as well. The lyric, the arrangement the way petty sings it.

not sure I agree with you about its status though.

Oh its just pop music, mate.

Easy listening with some good guest appearances on it (because Slash can't sing).

yes I know and I'm just talking about it

Louie Louie imho is a far more exuberant, less self indulgent, articulate example of the genre.

Good comeback JWAD. :D

On a stroll around the hills today I listened to the Fall's Infotainment Scan album. I'd forgotten how good it is.

Includes one of the great cover versions. Mark E Smith does Lost in Music.

Now that is good (the original was very good too)
