This one is for Futtocks.

One of my favourite songs ever. Written in 1969 and shows it's a longstanding complicated problem. However, it's something I try to help with both financially and practically wherever I can.

If I can, I always try to chat with genuine homeless people (there are frauds aplenty) and not just ignore them. Not sure there's a worse feeling than being cold, alone scared and invisible.

This is a bit different from much of the music on here, I will be the first to concede!

As at each Christmas, I have just been listening to Jean Mouton's setting of the seasonably relevant text, Nesciens Mater;  "Knowing no man, the Virgin mother bore, without pain, the saviour of the world..."  Here are Voces8 singing it:

Don't worry; you don't have to be a fervent Christian to (a) be moved by the beauty of this music or (b) admire the composer's incredible skill.

Regarding (b), what Mouton (d 1522) has done here is create a two-part canon in, collectively, eight vocal parts.  Not only that, but the second four-part choir, when it joins in does so a fifth above the first four-part choir.  In the wrong hands, such compositional dexterity could be dry and lifeless.  But Mouton is clearly a master and his skill (not to mention spiritual and emotional fervour) shine through here.  Brilliant stuff!

I should love to sing in a choir performing this one day, but sadly probably never will: for one thing, my choral ability, such as it is, would be stretched to the absolute limit; for another, there would be seven other parts to fill!

A track off what is probably my favourite metal album of the year. Not often you say that about a French band.

I can hear a bit of early Carcass in some of this. And a bit of Dream Theatre.

Also struck me as a nod to Roots era Sepultura.

It’s 19 years today since Joe Strummer died, consequently my play list today is almost exclusively The Clash

Strewth 19 years. I remember one of the blokes in the factory I was at telling me.

Heard it on the radio in the works canteen, really affected me, I had to go outside to compose myself
