Messer Chups live. Horror-movie-influenced surf guitar rock. Good fun.

Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.

Yes. Soley Soley or something. I remember the lead singer being a bit tasty (Sally something) but I was only a fledgling playboy at the time.

"Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum" was the big follow-up, got to number 2. Then the one you mention. The singer was famous for wearing hot pants.

They were Scottish. I remember them appearing on those "I Love the 70s" programmes about 20 years ago. 1971 was their year.

the amazing doug dillard

I`ve got "The Banjo Album" by Doug Dillard, which has "Runaway Country" as a bonus track. According to the sleeve notes, the album was recorded after he got back from touring Europe with the Byrds in the "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" period. And just before he made the two albums with Gene Clark.

David Hepworth`s book "Never a dull moment" is entirely about the music of 1971, and his thesis that it was a pivotal year.

Personally, wasn`t convinced. Looking at that list above, I reckon under a third of them are really worth digging out for anything more than reasons of nostalgia.

Not my usual Sunday morning vibe... but... until the memsahib commands that I turn it off, I've got 'give em enough rope' on.....

Not sure the neighbours will appreciate it either...

Stay Free is probably my favourite track on there.

As a young un at 17, it was always Tommy Gun. Nowadays my appreciation spreads all across the album ....  last gang in town.... I had the air guitar out in the kitchen whilst prepping the veg.

I heard this on the radio the other day, what a great tune. Never heard of the singer before, but downloaded the album this is on, and have been playing it all day since.

One of those albums I`ve never bothered rebuying on cd. Mainly because it`s decidedly underwhelming.

Each to their own cocker.

I love the album. C'est la vie

You`ve teed up a Jarvis or Joe gag there, but my head isn`t up to the challenge at the moment.

Easily their least impressive album, apart from the dismal postscript "Cut the ####" whose title would have been more apposite without its first two words. Opinions all my own, as you say.

Was this inspired by the weather?

I much prefer "The North Star Grassman and the Ravens".
