There's a new Robyn Hitchcock album (of covers) on the way. Here's the first single.

Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott: Since you've been gone. Yes, they're covering the song by Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow.

On a bit of a Scottish music binge. My favourite performance of one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite bands

I always found Scott Hutchison to be someone who wrote about some fairly well-trodden subjects in a unique and cliche free way.

The Decemberists have a new album out. I'm always nervous in case it's some prog rock or electronic experimental thing, but they've almost reverted to type with the new set of songs. Lovely stuff. Hopefully they'll be back in the UK in Autumn.

Not gonna lie, all this Oasis hype has got me listening to some of the old stuff again.

I don't care what anyone says, yes Liam was/is a tool, Noel is up his own backside etc but they didn't half have some bangers.

I'm going to dip my toe in the waters around getting tickets (not considering silly money), but no doubt will lose out to a 20 year old who quite likes Wonderwall.

Similar vein to the Saigon soul vid above, these folks popped up in my Spotify feed, Thee Marloes. Old school R&B vibes from a band out of Indonesia, beautiful voice.

Saw them support a band called Whiteout 30 years ago and thought they were okay and the first 2 albums were great but after that the drugs didn't work for them judging the 3rd album and Britpop was starting to fade by 1998.

Britpop has not worn well for mine- a lot of Oasis songs were borrowing from others - Noel hasn't  written a decent tune in a quarter of a century - but "music for the masses" and "the crass consumers line up shoulder to shoulder"- and so it goes on

Simply not true, some of his recent stuff is very good. Even when Oasis were past it, he could still some decent tunes.

Noel has been heavily criticised for borrowing from songs and rightly so at times. There are of course some obvious examples, where the modern term is 'interpolating', but I always think with the examples that are mentioned, the actual songs are completely different. As a rule of thumb, if somebody has to point out the similarity for you to notice it then they've created something completely different. It's not like the infamous Lana Del Ray 'Creep' where everybody can hear it straight away.

And I'm writing this when I'm rather p****d off at Oasis 😅. Went through the whole ridiculous charade this morning, only to get through and find out that Ticketmaster were now doing 'In Demand' tickets, which is translation for 'we're going to charge a heck of a lot more than the advertised price because we can.' £300 a ticket for the back of Wembley, erm no thanks.

I'd love to say Oasis had nowt to do with it, but I'm pretty sure from reading on Ticketmaster that it's up to the artist and promoter whether they do it or not.

Noel had the idea that the 3rd album was going to be the best, but he himself says that it became bloated and ridiculous and they missed the mark. I can remember watching MTV when the first single was shown and being disappointed.

Other than the odd tune that entered the cultural zeitgeist, I stopped listening to them at this point.
