Food and drink thread

Just bought a stovetop espresso jug, something I haven't had for a few years. I found one that was well discounted and was queuing up to pay when I spotted some (also discounted) Le Creuset espresso cups, so I ended up spending more after all. These are they, pretty much life-size. I got an orange one, so now I have four espresso cups, none of which match.

Ceramic, as far as I can tell. But they look good and are nice to drink from.

Just bought a bag of cobnuts, which I haven't had in about 20-30 years.

Naturally, the nutcrackers, which I remember seeing in the kitchen only the other day, have vanished into thin air. As they always do...

Stumbled across a lovely meal last night with leftovers (and steak).

Mandolin the following bad boys;

2 Carrots

A good handful of radishes

Shallots

Celery

Pestle and mortar;

Chilli - no seeds i reckon (last night hurt a little)

2/3 garlic

Fresh ginger

Fish Sauce

Palm Sugar

Soy

Lea Perrins

1/2 limes

Mix with shredded gems and any aromatic herbs, we had mint knocking about.

+ 2 sirloins, rubbed with sea salt and pepper.

Delicious

I called into Glocester services on the M5 the other day.

I think it's owned by Westmorland Farmers that run Tebay services on the M6.

In my experience Tebay has easily been the best services on the motorways. They specialise in local produce and it's like an upmarket farm shop.

The new Gloucester services claim that most of the produce was sourced within 30 miles of its site.

I assumed that certain products might be shipped down from the other site when I spotted "Cartmel Sticky Pudding" for sale.

On that basis I bought some Cumberland sausage which I've just had for my tea. Unfortunately I was disappointed as it wasn't anything like real Cumberland sausage.

Other than that they do have some lovely stuff albeit at quite fancy prices.

As an aside the best Cumberland sausage from outside of the Lake District area that I have found is Tesco's Finest. They seem to have a pretty traditional recipe.

Banksy you disgust me. Tesco sausages?

I'll bring you some proper sausages from Ombersley next time I take a break from touring...:

I am eating here - http://london.mestizomx.com - this evening. Report to follow.

Very nice it was too.

  • Cocktail: Paloma (tequila, lime juice & grapefruit soda, in a salt-dipped mug)
  • Main course: Mole Poblano (chicken, rice and beans in a rich dark sauce - no moles were harmed)
  • Dessert: Pastel 3 Leches (layered cake made with condensed milk, evaporated milk and double cream)

Lively for a Tuesday night, no piped music but a noisy happy buzz.

It's more than acceptable, the cask version is pretty good too.

Just enjoying a bottle of Andechser Bergbock Hell. I think it's my new favourite beer.

I'll have to look that one out.

I ate in a Brewers Fayre. There was no ale, and the food was disgusting.

Never again.

the field opposite my daughter's house is used to grow potatoes for Seabrook's crisps. They've told her she can have any taties that are left after they are harvested. Looking forward to it.

My neighbours were out potato harvesting over the weekend, backsides pointing to the sky.  Looked back breaking work (which I obviously didn't join in with).
