I too used to think these were a treat, along with Pot Noodles, and Vesta meals.

This reads like a potted history of growing up in the North, "I wouldn't start from here!" but we had to.

I saw this in Asda...

https://groceries.asda.com/product/indian-takeaway/asda-hot-indian-style-takeaway-meal-for-2/1000280856982

Ready meal box for 2:

Chicken phaal 6 chilli score, chicken vindaloo 5 chilli score, pilau rice, chilli naan 4 chilli score, chilli onion bhajis 4 chilli score.

Shine a light.

2 years ago I would have been dangerously tempted by this, but these days it would destroy my sensitive gut.

It's a new product apparently but it was already reduced to half price in my local Asda.

Reduced to clear before the food eats through the packaging, maybe?

I recently, because of circumstances, have been in touch with a local charity, trying to help rehouse me, and they arranged food boxes to be delivered to my door, they have included 3x Pataks Tikka Masarla 3 part curry kits. 4x 750g boxes of Kellogs Corn Flakes, 8 litres of UHT milk (4x 2l), 18 eggs, 10 tins of Baked beans, loads of pasta, tomato sauce, 120 tea bags probably as much Custard Creams, etc, etc., in 4 deliveries. I love free food, but I have nowhere to store it. When they rang me up on Monday, asking when I wanted my next delivery, I politely asked them to hold it. Some of it was well below the sell by date, some +/- a couple of days, and some, like some of the eggs, well beyond. I wouldn't even trust some of the eggs to my ex-wife. I did get a shed load of those bake-at-home baguettes that I like, although, where do I store them?

Had to go to A&E yesterday for a cauda equina assessment

I'm OK... but the doc gave me some instruction....

I have to give up all meat products. Eat beans tofu and lentils instead and have broccoli or other green veg for breakfast.

Now, anyone who knows me knows I have to make some urgent adjustments to my diet.

But bug ger me, does anyone really eat like that?

You should probably, maybe definitely, be also referred to a specialist dietician. I cannot believe a good doctor would instruct on drastic measures overnight.

A sudden influx of large amounts of pulses and beans can be a literal shock to your digestive system, especially if you're not used to FODMAPs in high doses.

Leafy greens for breakfast? A good place to start would be spinach with eggs on toast.

Edit: I'm in no way an expert.

See..... had she have suggested that.... I can live with it.... in fact, I may have that tomorrow!

I listen to The Doctors Kitchen podcast, an occasional note that comes up is health professionals including GPs have one small module at medical school about nutrition and not much else.

Definitely this. And make sure it is a dietician and not a nutritionist. The former requires qualifications, while the latter can be literally anyone at all.

True but a good nutritionist is better than a not so good dietician. Again a reference to the Doctors Kitchen podcast is sometimes people including dieticians stick to out dated thinking, for example calorie deficit.

I self referred to a dietician a few weeks ago, who was too basic for my needs, and they didn't know about the recommendation of getting 30 portions of different plant based foods per week, beyond the normal 5 a day.

'Black Fire' coffee and chilli tequila liqueur. I was going to wait 'til later this evening, but I wanted to try it. First thoughts:

1. The coffee flavour is okay-ish, certainly not as good as Patron XO's version.

2. The chilli content is mild but noticeable, and shows up more more on the aftertaste than the initial flavour.

3. The bottle looks pretty, but pours badly. Have some kitchen roll on hand.

4. A shot of this, warmed, would be a great topping to some really good-quality vanilla ice cream.

Advice please....

If I were to buy beef stock as opposed to doing my own....

Has anyone got any idea where I can buy the really well reduced stuff from?

You can get good regular stock or the really concentrated glace from https://www.souschef.co.uk/pages/search-results?q=stock

Beef stock £3.25 for 96g, glace £21.25 for 600g. I was given a Sous-Chef gift voucher for Christmas, and have used them twice more since then. Worth taking your time to browse the whole site.

Just bought a George Foreman grill from a Carboot for a quid. Anyone use one, any recipes?

First of all I hope it's safe.

Some vegetables are great charred on a grill like that, leeks for example.

Charred asparagus is a good one to try. Spring onions, too.

I made this today: https://www.nigella.com/recipes/roast-duck-legs-and-potatoes

And I can confirm that it is as ridiculously simple as the description says, and also very tasty. Even when you completely forget to set the timer and it stays in the oven for a whole hour longer than it should. Oops.

I used Jersey Royals for the spuds, and the dish was served up with asparagus. Given the fattiness, I think that maybe a sharper taste like coleslaw or celeriac remoulade would be a much better side dish. Next time...
