Obviously everyone is talking about the very good tackle from Tom Briscoe, but for me it highlighted the lack of basic skill our top players have, and why we are not good enough to beat Australia.

As soon as Fox received that pass the ball should have been transfered to his right hand to then free his last to fend off with. If he does this he scores simple as. A top Aussie would have done this no problem at all. If he can't carry the ball in his right hand then he should be playing on the other wing!

I will not blame young Charnley for not taking the ball on a bit further because he is young and this is only his 2nd 1st grade game, he will learn from this and I bet next time he is in the same situation his team will score.

Until we can improve our basic core skills we will simply not compete at the top level.

So you'd blame Fox for not having basic core skills but not Charnley, surely if they are CORE skills then players should have these before they turn pro, in my eyes BOTH players are to blame, Charnley should have taken the ball further and drawn the defender and Fox should have transfered the ball.It shouldn't detract from a tremendous tackle by Briscoe though, as a defender he did everything right.

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

Rugby League fan turns positivie into negative shocker

Now then, it's a race between Sandie....and Fairburn....and the little man is in........yeees he's in.

I, just like those Castleford supporters felt that the ball should have gone to David Plange but he put the bit betwen his teeth...and it was a try

Kevin Ward - best player I have ever seen

The real Mick Gledhill is what you see on here, a Bradford fan ........, but deep down knows that Bradford are just not good enough to challenge the likes of Leeds & St Helens.

He is of course spot on though. Great tackle, but not fantastic from Mr Fox.

Yes I would blame Fox as he is a seasoned International winger.

Charnley is playing his 2nd game at the top level, he maybe panicked a little bit with the game being on the line. He will be much better for the experiance of last night. I seem to remember a very young Gary Connolly having a bit of a mare in a cup final, learning from it and becoming a pretty good player.

So is it the fault of the players pro club or the amateur club for not teaching the players the basic core skills of the game, surely both players will have been in similar situations as amateurs.

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

I said in the other thread, for me the blame lies with whoever it was that passed to him. He basically caught the ball, ran towards Fox meaning the defender kept going towards Fox too and gave him a chance. If he had straightened towards the defender and drew him in then Fox would have had a walk in. Very poor play but also a superb cover tackle, though it was a tackle he shouldnt have been able to make.

It seems that Pat Richards did exactly the same thing tonight, but managed to score. So it isn't just our players is it?

Completely different situation though.

I noticed that too. Lazy carry.

How? he's heading for the tryline, the defender is coming across from one side, and he doesn't swap the ball to the other hand to fend him off.

Because that doesn't allow us to slag off the local players does it?

FFS, this really is one of the most depressing threads I have read for a while on here.

What? No idea what your on about. the difference is in the KR attack the last player to pass the ball could easily have drawn the defender and made space for Fox, this wasnt the case for Richards.

No, ultimately the point is the same. The player looking to score a try is one-on-one with the last defender. Richards did not switch the ball to his outside hand, which is exactly what Fox is getting criticised for, and what the whole thread is about.

You are claiming it is different, it isn't, it is exactly the same, but with a different outcome. Nobody has disagreed about the centre play, this thread is purely about the ball carrier, you have turned it into something it isn't.

BTW, my comments weren't aimed at you in my earlier post.

I thought the thread was about skill levels, drawing a defender and clearing your winger is a skill also. And for me that was the worst part of the non-try, worse than Fox`s wrong carry. Sorry if you believe I have side tracked the thread, though im not sure how I have.

No. The opening post was about which hand the player carried the ball in. Somebody said that Richards did the same tonight (which he did).

You then said it was different and brought the final pass in, when the point was that both wingers carried the ball in the wrong (in some people's opinion) hand. There was no discussion about the pass, and the pass was not relevant to the OP's post.

The pass is absolutely worthy of discussion, and in fact has been discussed, but it was you who said that the two players carrying the ball in the wrong hand was different, when in fact it wasn't. the pass is not relevant to which hand the final player carried the ball in, as each player makes their decision with the ball in hand.

Oh right, my bad.

Sorry dkw, not trying to be arsey, just that the point was purely about the ball carry, yet you said that Richards' and Fox's were completely different, yet they weren't.
