After yesterday I think Wire can do it and pull off a cup and SL double!

Before yesterday I didn't think we were quite ready for beating a big club like Leeds in such a convincing manner. I thought we may pip it and have a few iffy decisions to help us along the way, but to destroy Leeds and totally blow them off the park like Wire did makes me confident of winning the double.

Next week may well be the turning point. Can Briers and co backup after a weekend on the lash?? We need a big score against Quins to ensure 2nd place because Saints will want to hammer Cas in their final game at Knowsley Rd. But if Wire play like the level they did yesterday they can beat anyone, even Saints! :O

Thoughts?

Wigan have consistency but just think the big match thing is something they have yet to master and have bottled on numerous times this season. Wire have overcome that now.

Has it ever occurred to you that if you were to be magnanimous in victory it may enhance your credibilty on here ?

Well, Lee Briers couldn't go on the pi$$ for ages, as he was pulled out for a drug test.

Tony Smith had a right rant about that, it's on Sporting life and BBC rl sites.

De-hydrated players asked to urinate on demand, maybe he has a point.

However, I digress.

Wires to Old Trafford.

Game 1 v Skints.

Anyone else see a problem here?

Home or way, it's most likely a defeat, even if we rest a few on Friday v Quins.

So, we go "sudden death" and assuming we clear the next hungry side from below, really we need Wigan to have lost their first game to give us a better chance there.

Knowsley Road away twice?

Sorry, I don't believe we can do that (yet)

Skints at home twice, maybe we could sneak 1 game at last, but in this "run" of cup glory, there's 1 big noticeable team we haven't played, and the heavy monkey is still there.

Maybe it is our year, but I think really 2011 is a better option.

Be nice to be wrong, mind.... ;)

Wires record breaking 10 match run: L 16-17 ; L 34-36 ; L 24-44 ; L 20-38 ; L 8-46; L 14-26 ; L 20-40 ; L 22-48 ; L 14-20 ; L 8-60. Thanks Jimmy.The Glamour Club. Apparently.

Captain Morgan Trophy Holders.(I still think we have the British Coal 9's trophy hidden somewhere, too...)

Ooooh, the Challenge Cup!!! Thank you Tony.....

wigan vs st helens will be the SL GF.

the CC final often allows teams an easy run into the final

to win SL you have to beat all the top teams

cant see wire beating both wigan and st helens

having said that its really good seeing another club rising to the top of the ranks

wire have a good 5 years ahead of them and theyll be winning a SL trophy down the track

If Wire do win the Grand Final you will need a forum all to yourself, lest a few on here will be going on long vacations. :P

Never gloat when you win, nor sulk when you lose is a wonderful attribute. Not that you ever gloat, Wendall. B)

As for your question, it's not cut and dry for any team.

Of course they can do the double....just as man can cure all known diseases but not this year.

What Smith has managed to do, and god knows how he's managed it given the material he has to work with, is to get his team to play with an NRL-like intensity and concentration for the full 80 minutes.

Mind, he is not alone because Wigan and Saints can also do that but they are not as good as Wire in the forward pass department.

It all makes for a facinating end, John.

Players are pulled out after every match, it's nothing new. I think saying they were "expected to urinate on demand" is seriously over dramatising the situation. There are several tales doing the rounds about players having to drink copious amounts (as you rightly point out they will be, to some extent, dehydrated) over hours in some cases, before they are able to pass water. The testers will wait until they do. There is no drama, no handcuffs, no punishment for not doing so instantly and it is far from unique.

As for Wire doing the double; why not? They are certainly good enough, though the one thing which has stood out in their results this season is the number of defeats against the better sides. I put this down to a bit of shortage in conviction, a touch of self doubt maybe, but if the emphatic win at Wembley can build their confidence then Wire can go all the way.

No team is an island.........................................

Can wire do the Cup and League double?

Of course they can. At the risk of stating the obvious, they are the only team who can do it this year. Whether they will or not is another question.

As much as I fear I'm coming across like I like the Wire, I honestly don't, however they are big contenders this year.

In the past few weeks they have beaten the League winners away in a massive game and comprehensively outplayed the current champions at Wembley.

There's only Saints who have anything over them and that's only a matter of time.

5 defeats out of 7 games against the other big teams indicates an era of complete dominance isn't a foregone conclusion. God help us all if they do as Bellendall will turn this site into a ghost town with his Team of All the Talents nonsense for an eternity.

When they won controversially at the Piedome against injury depleted Wigan rather than being the start of a drive to the league title they lost (are we allowed to write "bottle" or will the thread be locked?) the next 2 games, including one againts the bottom club in the league.

To win the Grand Final they will have to win at least 2 big games in a row, and that will be too much. They rely on a half who cannot produce week in, week out because of the years of abuse he has given his body and a magnificent prop with a lot of miles on the clock. If the GF was a one off game they could rest players for then they would be my favourites, but they won't get enough victories out of their oldsters to win at OT. If I were a betting man I would bet on the League Winners up against Saints, in a genuine classic rather than a damp squib of a game. :D

For me winning reaching the GF would show that Warrington are the real deal. Realistically to get there we need to beat St Helens. Until we can do that there'll always be doubts. Hopefully we can do it, and then next year we'll have the World Club Challenge match. Warrington V St George - bring it on! :)

Yeah we can ;);)

well nobody else can

the wolves seem to have shaken off their 'choker' tag. Their defensive effort throughout the game was awesome.
