Planet Earth 2 on BBC1 now is pretty incredible. They don't say 'like a plague of locusts' for nothing!

The starling murmuration over Rome in tonight's programme was absolutely beautiful.

'Planet Earth 2' was easily the match of the first series. The film/technology advances in the decade since the original display these amazing scenes even more vividly.

Now, about 'Blue Planet 2', then. Get cracking, David!

The only downside of 'Planet Earth 2' was that it was only 6 episodes, unlike the original's 11.

  • 2 weeks later...

Seen it several times but the scene in Royle Family, Queen of Sheba with Barb & Norma (Que Sera sera) is superb and really touching.

Hadn't seen this one till tonight but yeah, well written and acted

The Reassembler was good.

It really shouldn't work as a TV programme.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Im watching "to walk invisible"

A story about the Bronte's. Its superb but one tbing has really jarred, one of the sisters was reading a note out loud and she pronounced harassed in the American way harASSED ( stress on the last syllable) instead of HARassed (stress on the first syllable)

It particularly annoys me because people do it here with lake district names. The stress should always be on the first syllable with the last thrown away

We live in a world where people watching tv is turned into a tv programme. Absolutely anything now works as a tv programme.

Except 'Citizen Khan'...

I haven't watched that much telly over Christmas, not because I'm an old grump who thinks modern telly is rubbish, I've just not had much time. I've a fair few programmes stacked on the recorder to catch up with later. It'll be fun watching a festive-themed show in June...

The few things I have made time to watch include Doctor Who (obviously) on Christmas Day, because in these days of social media, if you watch it later someone will have ruined it by giving away the plot and all the best lines already (whereas after you've watched it, social media is just people telling you how awful it was and how no one could possibly have enjoyed it). It turned out to be much better than I was anticipating, laugh out loud funny in all the right places as it made gentle mockery of the super hero genre while paying homage at the same time. Not sure I'm going to warm to Matt Lucas as the oddball new companion, but I remember thinking I was going to hate Catherine Tate when she did a Christmas special and then went on to become a regular and that turned out ok in the end.

Christmas Day Top of the Pops. I mean, you just have to, don't you? It's as traditional as the turkey in my house. As an oldie nowadays, I'm a bit out of touch with the trendy pop scene, but amidst all the talent show winners on there, I was quite taken by Christine and the Queens, who I'd never heard of before, but subsequently downloaded and listened to the album and liked it a lot, which shows the benefit of still having a show like Top of the Pops on the telly, I reckon. (I can recommend watching the repeats from the early 1980s on BBC4 every week n'all).

What else, erm, oh yes the Christmas QI. I'm quite enjoying Sandi Toksvig as the new host on this show. Looks to be in safe hands.

That's about it so far. The only other thing I've watched is the recent Beatles live fillum 'Eight Days a Week' that someone was kind enough to buy me as a pressie. If you like The Beatles, you'll like this a lot. I certainly did. If you don't like The Beatles, get your ears tested! ;)

Happy New Year.

Yeah, I saw that, with a certain amount of cynicism, and sat through the entire lot. I expected all the actors to have RADA approved Southern England accents, most of them did, but there were a few 21st century "Yorkshire Style" accents flowing through it. It was actually quite a good programme, nice to see Halifax was a den of sin even in those days

Carry On Camping on ITV3 in a minute - result.

Carry on Cleo now on. Classic. "Infamy, Infamy, they've all got it Infamy."
