Gerrumonside ref Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 Must admit Thanksgiving seems very sensible to me, compared to the royal pageantry twaddle they make us sit through in the UK. 1
Gerrumonside ref Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 Back to TV thread though! Really enjoyed the Brawn documentary most recently on BBC iPlayer.
Father Gascoigne Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Seen two episodes of the first season of The Capture. Watchable fare, which is typical of British crime/thriller productions. I've heard particularly good things about the second season, so there's that to look forward to. Silo is in a similar category. Intriguing enough mystery to keep watching but fairly mundane otherwise. Dune Prophecy has failed to grasp attention, but I wasn't a fan of the movies either. Yellowstone is Yellowstone. It's absurd, but it does just enough every episode to keep hanging on. Thankfully it'll all be over soon. Bad Sisters season two has successfully managed to avoid sophomore trappings and is probably the show I look forward to at most at the moment. I've also got The Agency lined up in queue. I'm led to believe it's based on a well-received and popular French show, so that bodes well. The more existing material something has to reference, the less chance of it being tripe.

South Asian festivals are a part of British culture. I think one reason American culture penetrating into our society bothers me so much is because our children are taking it all in when they are young and naive and think because they've had it shoved down their throats so much that it is a part of their society and so exclude themselves from their actual society. A comment more relevant to your Christmas tree thread maybe, but our 3 year old is very excited about Santa at the moment. Me and my wife are spending a lot of time talking about Father Christmas. Like Gingerjon says, it's probably a battle that's been going on for decades but this is definitely a hill that I'm willing to die on in the battle against the invading American culture. (I'll be disappointed if a pedant doesn't come along to say that the term Santa is actually an olde English term from the 1400s originating in Cumbria or something!)

Like all long-established traditions, Father Christmas, as he currently is, was unknown before Queen Victoria. Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Bedford Roughyed Posted December 1, 2024 Author Posted December 1, 2024 There's a lawyer and a reputation manager crying right now.... With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Futtocks Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Just announced: The BBC have dropped both MasterChef Christmas specials from the schedules. The current series of MasterChef The Professionals will still run its course. 1 Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted. Hammerless Nail Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 If you're struggling to understand how a bloke could ever think that walking around your place of work in the nip and with your todger in a sock was an acceptable form of behaviour, then it may help you to know that Gregg Wallace is a qualified rugby union coach. 1 2

The Xmas specials are sleb ones so losing them is no big deal - even if they are blocked from repeats, the actual contestants in this series deserve to have their efforts shown. 2 Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Much better than using the old website (although they say they've improved that too). Search for "TPTV" rather than the full name. Versions of the TPTV Encore app have now been released for Android and Apple devices too. Note: on Chromecast, I had to search "tptv encore" to find it, as "tptv" alone didn't work. The Hallucinating Goose Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I've been really enjoying The Young Offenders recently, almost got to the end of it. I've watched the film a couple of times but never committed to watching the series until now. The film is still better I think but that doesn't mean anything cos I think both the film and series are great!
Gerrumonside ref Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 (edited) The latest remake of The Day of the Jackal on Sky Atlantic is excellent I found. Edited December 9, 2024 by Gerrumonside ref

Bedford Roughyed Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Black Doves on Netflix is a good spy related thriller. Good cast and moves along at a decent pace. ivans82 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 The Listeners was a dire watch on BBC1 . Kept tuning in thinking something more would be going on , but no . Reminded me of those 60s/70s black and white French films which were supposed to be "Hip" to llke because they were so profound , but instead were just empty .
