Maximus Decimus Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Does anybody else enjoy/suffer through MAFs. For some reason, I've always quite enjoyed trash reality TV and this isn't one of the worst. A couple of things do irritate me though. 1) It goes on waaaaay too long. What happened to a reasonable 12 episodes a series? 2) The false justification for 'tasks' that are clearly invented to create conflict. One particularly egregious one has them ranking all the other women in the experiment based on attractiveness before placing your 'wife' in the same list. According to the so called experts, the emotionally intelligent thing to do is to put your wife first regardless of whether she is the most attractive or not. As you'd expect, this is easier for some couples to do than others. A Widnesian in Ireland blog What is the best system for Super League? An honest appraisal
Futtocks Posted April 8 Posted April 8 About a month ago (but only noticed by me just now), ITV launched a new YouTube channel, ITVRetro. Worth keeping an eye on to see what they make available. https://www.youtube.com/@itv-Retro 3 Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted. Father Gascoigne Posted April 8 Posted April 8 (edited) Mobland is worth keeping an eye on to see if it congeals into something above average when the season is done. Hardy does his usual thing and it works quite well again. This City Is Ours is an easy pass based on the first episode. Edited April 8 by Father Gascoigne

Jeff Stein Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Not sure what to make of The White Lotus, although the fact that I am still thinking about it a day after it concluded probably says something.Hadn't watched the first two series, but tried it as it was set in Thailand, which was beautifully and vibrantly shot and generally treated respectfully. By the end even the nice characters were compromised and I am not convinced that I can really enjoy a series where everyone is unlikable.
The Hallucinating Goose Posted April 9 Posted April 9 This evening I've rewatched Murder on the Blackpool Express, the first in a trilogy of comedy murder mystery tv films, and a tv series. I adore these films, so funny, so different from anything else out there, and I haven't watched them since the covid lockdown. I don't want to say too much about them for those of you that haven't seen them, I'll just say that they are on iplayer and I cannot recommend them enough! 1

Never saw S1, which most seem to think is the best, but I've now seen S2 and S3. S2 I thought was better overall and had a much more satisfying conclusion. S3 was engaging enough, but that ending was rough. Just went off the boil.
Josef K Posted April 13 Posted April 13 I have just watched an episode of Bruce Parry’s new series. Wherever he goes around the world he always seems game, but most importantly people seem to like & respect him. He does seem to be a very calm & nice man.
Josef K Posted April 13 Posted April 13 My daughter has text me to tell me to put celeb big brother on as Micky Rourke has been kicked out. I have heard of him as he was an actor but that is it. The other first class AAA list celebs i have heard of is the singer & Daley Thompson. The others i haven’t got a clue. Is the programme worth watching ?.

Futtocks Posted April 21 Posted April 21 I was watching a 1989 episode of The Krypton Factor and, during a continuity observation round, there was a short sketch starring a very young Steve Coogan (doing a Michael Caine impression). Apparently he did quite a few of these. Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted. Ralph Waldo Emerson

It's a sad state of affairs when you got to watch old shows from the BBC1/BBC2/ITV and Channel 4 yet we have loads of channels and supscibtions and yet most are just rubbish.....must be nice to part of the gravy train.

Liverpool Rover Posted April 22 Posted April 22 I’ve finished Mr. McMahon on Netflix. It’s more about the history of the WWF/E during McMahons time as owner and not that much about Vince himself.

The Masked Poster Posted April 23 Posted April 23 (edited) Does anyone remember 'The Cops' which was on BBC in the late 90's/early 00's? Typical gritty northern drama, featuring half of Coronation St/Clocking off (before they were famous) but it's pretty bloody good. I remember it being on but was working a hell of a lot in those days. But found it on iPlayer. Edited April 23 by The Masked Poster

Futtocks Posted April 23 Posted April 23 I have a question for the Elephant-memoried among you. Back in the (I'm pretty certain) Eighties, there was a one-off TV programme that tried to sell the notion of a screen that was taller than it was wide. You were instructed to turn your TV set on its side and the presenter showed various clips that showed off image height rather than width. Can anyone remember what it was called? Some of it (rough estates) were filmed in Heywood, much to our amusement! 1 With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Yeah first person I noticed old big headed Roger! Funny to see Ken playing a cop almost like the Early Doors duo Phil and Nigel. 12 hours ago, Bedford Roughyed said: Some of it (rough estates) were filmed in Heywood, much to our amusement!
