But it has been a while. Not having a community club I can easily get to and from inside an afternoon limits the chances.

Ah, from as recently as 2008! That's when I moved to Hastings.

I haven't been able to get to an RL game with a camera since 2013 so it's not going to be too recent, really.

I have been unemployed for 5 years, I still manage to get to at least one Broncos game per year, I even went to the WC Final at the Olympic Park, You are still employed I assume?

The "with my camera" part is the key bit. I wouldn't take it to a Broncos game, nor to any other pro match I went to, and should I make it to the Skolars then the stand is too far away to be worth it. I also won't be taking it to the World Cup final - I have my ticket - next year.

Is that because you think your camera might get robbed by some Northern Monkey? But here in Hastings it will be safe?

No, it’s because if I’m in a stand in a stadium - or in a decent ground where you’re usually further away from the pitch - the constant clicks will annoy everyone around me, my photos won’t have much variety and they aren’t likely to be much cop so it’s just not worth taking the camera. Plus some grounds won’t let you take them in in the first place. And some will stop you taking photos even if they do.

Who? Name names.

My first ever foreign trip was to Perpignan in 1986(ish) for France v Great Britain, I had my Dad's 35mm SLR, and a standard lens while we were sitting in the stand opposite the players tunnel, I said to my Brother "I'm going to see if I can get closer," because the pitch had fencing surrounding it, I walked round the ground and started walking down the players tunnel to be confronted by two Gendarmes, armed with rifles and an Alsatian dog that looked hungry. They looked at me slowly walking down the tunnel, and asked "Oui?" I fumbled in my jacket pocket, found my wallet and produced my Video Rental Club card, and said, with confidence, "Presse?" "Ah, Oui," they said and waved me through with a wave of Gallouise.

I had some great photos with my short lens, and a bit of Northern Balls.

Now Rugby League....

Very nice - genuinely . You don’t necessarily need a camera for that though as you could do it with your phone.
I’ve been blocked from taking a camera into Wembley as it fell foul of their regulations - and these days they have bag size regulations which mean I wouldn’t even try. I’ve also been stopped from taking photos there, as well as the dizzy heights of Peterborough and, yes, Eastbourne Borough. Given that I’m only doing it as I enjoy it, I pick and choose where I go and where I take the camera. If there was community rugby league nearby, I’d be there.

Picture was Olympic Stadium, with a "Genuine" DLSR, not a phone camera, you would be pushed to focus & zoom in with an ifone X, let alone then. Good lenses, and a bit of nerve will get you any where. Trust me. You don't have to sit behind the barriers at Eastbourne Ladies to get good "Sports" Porno photos.

I'm the fairest of fairweather bantams but I don't see how Bradford can turn it around unless the other teams around them start being just as poor.

Happily, we were much better than Southend and Stevenage when we played them both and neither look to have the financial clout to bring in better players. We have been promised investment in more players in January and ultimately, that will determine our league status. It's been another really poor season so far.

Don't count your bantams before they hatch!

Last season and the online banter between Bradford and Swindon over Eoin Doyle seems so far away for both clubs. 😔

They are bad. Very bad. We smashed Southend recently. The undercarriage of my pants is still (just) in tact. Fingers crossed and cheeks clenched!

Doyle followed the money all the way to Bolton, via Bradford and Swindon (with Bradford's help). I can't blame him in a way.

Both teams walk of in Paris after Turkish side allege racism from 4th official

I've heard he used the word "negru" to describe a player. "Negru" in Romanian means black. Hopefully this is just a case of misunderstanding and not racism.

I hope it's as simple as that. There does seem to be a bit of an issue about why the official would be describing any player or coach by the colour of their skin rather than by using their name (or if they don't know the name, asking for it). But let's see what comes out in the wash - the match itself will start again this afternoon with a different officiating team.

May I ask the experts on here a question? The BBC (and others) have reported that United are out of the CL. When I look at the table, it seems that a big win (5-0 or so) for the Turkish team would shift PSG's goal difference enough to put them below United and mean that United go through while PSG are eliminated.

What am I missing?

What you are missing is that goal difference doesn't count. In the CL.it is head to head to decide between teams tied on points. United won 2-1 in Paris,  PSG won 3-1 at O.T. If PSG had won 2-1 at OT then aggregate and away goals would be identical,  then goal difference would count. The principle behind this is a very good one, if two teams tie on points it should be decided by who did better between the two teams when they met rather than who scored more against the group's no hopers for instance.

Quite a few European leagues use head to head as the first tie-breaker. I prefer it over using goal difference first.

I thought MUFC were +5 GD, and PSG were only +3, therefore PSG had win by 3+ goals.
