That's academic anyway. Salford have about as much chance of reaching Wembley as we do.
Methven Hornet
For those who are interested in these things, Fort William were on their way to a first win of the season after going 1-0 up against Wick Academy this afternoon. Then the game was abandoned owing to rain and (very) strong winds. It was possibly a gust who scored the goal.

Aye, you wouldn't find a shinty game being abandoned because of gale force conditions.

ivans82
Is this what football has become . Bournemouth against City .......no shots on goal .....no shots at all.......no corners awarded . Suggest they give every Bournemouth fan their money back .

Surely these games at home are a free go - have a blooming effort for your fans . To many teams have played city and made it a zero spectacle . Chances are gonna lose so an insipid 1-0 is the worst option
wilsontown
I watched the Steel City derby last night, and even as an Owl it was abhorrently bloody boring.
Gerrumonside ref
My view is that on average rugby league is better to watch. However football is easier to play and to understand which I think is a big part of why it captures the imagination. Many moons ago I used to work briefly on news and sport desks that had only not covered rugby league because the journalists there had never played it and had a fear factor of looking stupid. Not quite the conspiracy in the coverage of the sport that many make out - just simple human frailty.

DavidM
Most games seem poor quality in that league to me . I’ve had enough after a couple of minutes but the commentators go on like they’re all Brazil v Italy ‘

I must admit I think they are giving it too much coverage now. I like seeing women compete in darts and horse racing but they are of a competitive standard compared to men.

I’ve seen a few bulletins where they’ve headlined or made prominent a woman’s footy rugby or cricket game ahead of the men’s article . It may be what they want to push as part of a broader policy but on purely awareness , interest and support sports like that often just doesn’t merit it Edited March 7, 2019 by DavidM
Gerrumonside ref
Is this coverage of the England’s women’s football team who have a decent chance of winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup? Because I think beating Japan was a creditable performance in the SheBelieves Cup, as I think the Japanese were finalists in the last World Cup in Canada. Gerrumonside ref
Just now, Niels said: I think Japan played their second eleven in the She believes cup. But I understand your point. Okay, fair enough, I’d only seen the score line against Japan, but had followed the previous Women’s World Cup in Canada with interest. Personally I never really understand the hostility towards trying to grow women’s sport - it can only be a positive thing for both player and spectator. I know there’s a clamour for it not to receive coverage for some reason, but how does anyone expect playing standards to increase without some incentive for commercialising the game?

They made some substitutions at half time, and it was a tougher test for England in the second half. But it was nice to see an England Football team lift a trophy in colour. It doesn't happen very often, after all. 1 Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.
