I have heard the £200m mentioned today also, and here is how I would allocate it, assuming we start at say £35m and rise to £45m in year 5

1. Central funding for England squad playing in SL, say 10 grade 1 at £200k each, 15 grade 2 at £100k each - reviewed every 2 years

2. SL1 at £1.5m rising to £1.9m - the clubs providing the england players in essence get more money

3. SL2 at £750k rising to £950k - with a caveat that they must be FT and a playing budget no less than £1.1m rising to £1.4m

4. Champ 1 £100k rising to £130k but season to finish in August allowing time to recruit should the winner meet criteria for promotion

5. £1m central marketing budget pa

Broad brush figures but fits strategy

My "vision" for the future is effectively a 2 tier SL, in which all of our current or once great clubs are in good shape. Oldham, Fev, Leigh, Fax, etc etc have shown in the past that they can produce players and draw crowds. If we ever stand a chance of beating the Aussies we need every one of these wonderful clubs feeling included. The World Cup conclusively showed that there is an appetite for properly marketed RL in non SL grounds. With North Wales Crusaders and Toulouse in SL1/2, then we will have at last got a European SL with the best traditional clubs having a great chance of success, and the best chance of the non English finding their level.

Wow! Just wonderful!

It would be helpful to know how things have been going on Premier.

From memory, second tier rugby used to pull in around 30,000 - 60,000 viewers?  If that were repeated it would make it the highest non-soccer on SS4.

WWE, Golf, Cricket ?

Looking at all the announcements Sky have made today, I suspect they are more to do with stabilising the share price of the company after they announced last year’s profits were dented yesterday  (see - http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/jan/30/bskyb-profits-premier-league-deal). As well as SL and a ton of other sports being picked up today, they also anounced they have renewed their HBO deal for Sky Atlantic which is also a big deal. So for anyone thinking this is purely due to the restructure of the league, I suspect this has been in the pipeline for a while. The fact it’s come out so soon after our changes have been announced is a happy coincidence I suspect.

Press releases are not evidence. You tell me seriously Terry, if there had been no rival bidders SKY would have upped the contract?

And if there was only Tesco to shop at we would be paying £10 for a loaf.

Give up Parky, accept what has been done, and as for you stating in another post:

"If were going to debate RL based on press releases equally based on agendas like Wood saving his skin, then we are into fantasy RL"

Funnily enough you were quite happy to quote Mr Sadler when you both had the same hymn sheet!

"If Rugby League had never been Invented, today we would only have Rugby League"

First instinct was that it would have had to be a good deal for the RFL/SL to go for it so far ahead of time. If £200m is the correct figure, then that sounds promising. Presumably inflation gobbles up a chunk of that increase, especially towards the back end, but still a significant real-terms increase on the current figure.

Before we start writing cheques to clubs and they start writing cheques to players with promises for 2017, we should work out how that money is going to be used to set up the youth and grassroots structures we need to compete in a 21st-century sport market. And what proportion needs to go to the representative/international/RLIF side of things.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

No doubt there'll be a clear definition in the contract of how much is paid per game, and that will be different for SL / Championship / Challenge Cup games. On that basis the money should be shared out in a similar ratio, so if (for example) SL games generate 75% of the value then 75% of the money should go to SL clubs.

IIRC one of the issues raised by Adam Pearson was that the RFL wouldn't actually tell the clubs how much was being raised by the various deals. They were only giving broad figures and then announcing how much each club was getting. That would have to change.

It's a good starting point (btw, on the assumption that Sky are showing 100 games, 20 of which are from the Championship the split for the 'league' part should be 4:1 on that basis) but would mean that there was no money at all for Championship 1, the community game etc etc.

Andy Wilson is reporting that deal "until 2021". That makes it a £200 over 4 years. Can anyone confirm? http://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2014/jan/30/sky-tv-deal-super-league-nigel-wood-rugby?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

And a HUGE cut for Les Catalans!

Well done to Nigel Wood and the RFL for negotiating what appears to be a good deal for the sport. A pat on the back too for all the fans who have been watching games on Sky and too all who turned out for the World Cup. Your support has given Sky a reminder about the importance of rugby league in their portfolio.

Do you think almost £1m gap between SL1 and SL2 would be conducive to the middle 8 play offs working as anticipated Dave? I'd like to see the figures a little closer than that and more for the lower tier too.

That seems to be the aim

As things stand clubs in the Championship receive only around £90,000 per year compared to funding for the Super League clubs of more than £1m, and Rimmer said: "At the moment there is a funding ratio of 12 to one and, if that can be changed to a two-one ratio, we will have a more competitive structure."

They'll have to shrug and bear it.

Sorry, I meant a lot more for them, what with having every home match televised
