Melbourne Storm second-rower Felise Kaufusi has been cleared to represent the Maroons in Origin I after being found not guilty for tripping Jake Turpin in the Storm’s win over the Broncos on Thursday night.

A tripping offence in the NRL is usually met with a fine, but it was Kaufusi’s third offence of the season, meaning he was issued a one-match ban – a penalty that would have seen the forward miss the Origin opener on June 9th.

Kaufusi, and defense lawyer Nick Ghabar, argued to the tribunal that the 29-year-old did not make any contact with Turpin, and claimed that a ‘sprawling technique’ was used to get back to his feet as Turpin was trying to offload the ball.

I’m not on Twitter. Following that link I had to laugh. The twitterings I saw in his name were so polite with pleases and thank yous, general politeness and consideration. Are we sure it really is his account?

Why should you be surprised by this, Gus is a legend, why when he was with the Penrith Panthers he even spent one afternoon selling hot dogs and Oak milk to Panthers fans from the Northern Kiosk on the Hill  (The Fittler Files 2012 - Page 41) - Can you imagine Gary Hetherington doing the same at Headingley ?

There were only four games in Round 13 but there were still lots of bad lads reported.

Melbourne Storm duo Nelson Asofa-Solomona and Reimis Smith are facing suspensions following a review of Saturday's match against Gold Coast.

Asofa-Solomona was charged twice, with a 52nd-minute contrary conduct charge set to result in a one-week ban unless he is successful at the judiciary.

The second charge, for a careless high tackle, only attracted a fine.

Smith is facing a two-week ban after being issued a grade two careless high tackle charge.

Titans centre Patrick Herbert was handed a grade one dangerous contact charge but that only attracts a fine.

Panthers backs Robert Jennings and Dylan Edwards and Wests Tigers duo Moses Mbye and James Roberts are facing fines after being charged over incidents in Friday night's match at Leichhardt Oval.

Jennings received a grade one careless high tackle charge for contact on Wests Tigers forward Luciano Leilua which resulted in a penalty try, while Edwards received a grade one contrary conduct charge for his involvement in a melee shortly after half-time.

Mbye and Roberts were both charged with grade one contrary conduct charges, Mbye from a tackle on Stephen Crichton and Roberts for his role in the melee.

Brisbane rookie TC Robati was the one player charged from Thursday night's match between the Dragons and Broncos.

Robati, who was playing in his second NRL match, is facing a $1500 fine after being issued a grade one careless high tackle charge for a 45th-minute incident involving Dragons forward Poasa Faamausili.

These fines are mounting up. I wonder what the total of them all is since the directive has been strictly enforced?

More problems for Curtis Scott at Canberra the Capital's Crisis Club

Quote

The NRL is investigating an incident at a Canberra hotel involving Raiders centre Curtis Scott.

CCTV footage has emerged of Scott in an alleged altercation last Sunday night

The Raiders became aware of the incident when notified by media outlets on Sunday afternoon, and have since referred it to the integrity unit.

Scott has endured a dramatic 18-month stint at the Raiders.

He was tasered by NSW police on Australia Day last year and charged with resisting arrest before the case was thrown out in court.

The most recent incident comes as another unwanted drama for the Canberra club.

They have finalised an ugly exit for halfback George Williams, who was released immediately after struggling with homesickness.

Williams had asked for a release at the end of 2021 from the final season of his three-year deal, but was instead let go immediately.

Scott was one of several players to like a post from Williams last month which claimed the club had "kicked (him) out the door" instead of supporting him.

Josh Hodgson is also uncertain about his future, insistent he still has years in him as a starting hooker.

Forward Joseph Tapine's wife was also caught in a club scandal, questioning coach Ricky Stuart's interchange tactics earlier in the year.

Canberra have sunk to 14th on the NRL ladder, winning one of their past eight games

The Ref was poor and inconsistent in this match he made Klein look a model of consistency! Trouble is the Judiciary can't be seen to be letting players off when most cases a common sense action would be a penalty and/or Yellow card!

Like looking at Super League standards

Matt Lodge is going nowhere after a mid-season move to Newcastle fell through this week.

The 26-year-old had been in discussions with the Knights about an immediate switch with the Broncos understood to be keen to offload part of his hefty $800,000-a-season salary.

But according to both The Daily Telegraph the Knights moved on with the Newcastle Herald reporting backlash from fans as the reason.

The Broncos are apparently closing in on a deal with Dragons flyer Jordan Pereira. The winger has been unable to lock down a regular spot in Anthony Griffin’s side.According to The Daily Telegraph, Pereira is looking at a two-year deal to head north. He would join Adam Reynolds and Brenko Lee as new Broncos recruits for the 2022 season as Kevin Walters looks to shape the squad to his liking.
