Ryan James is facing a one-match suspension for the tackle that ended the season of Tigers fullback James Tedesco.
James collected Tedesco high in Saturday’s thrilling 19-18 win at Campbelltown, which kept the Gold Coast’s finals hopes alive.
The tackle was more awkward than malicious or intentional, James’ arm coming into contact with Tedesco’s face as the Wests custodian dipped low while catching a bomb.
James was hit with a grade two careless high tackle charge and will miss Saturday’s trip to Newcastle if he pleads guilty.
While the tackle was accidental, the penalty seems sufficient given Tedesco is facing eight weeks on the sidelines after he undergoes surgery this week.
James is the most penalised (26) player in the NRL this season

St George Illawarra look set to finally end their chase for a prized scalp with Gold Coast speedster Nene Macdonald on the verge of joining the Dragons.

The Dragons have missed out on a host of big name players including Corey Norman, Jarryd Hayne and Luke Keary but look to have landed Macdonald on a three year deal.

The Titans are resigned to losing the former Australian schoolboy representative.

Macdonald, 22, joined the Titans midyear through last year from the Roosters.

While Macdonald will add some much needed pace to a St George Illawarra backline, he does not solve the club’s half and hooker woes.

Melbourne can potentially stitch up the NRL’s minor premiership with a win in Canberra tonight.
The Storm will move three competition points clear of second-placed Cronulla if they can leave the nation’s capital victorious.
The Raiders, though, won’t be giving up easy territory in front of a home crowd at GIO Stadium.
They can leapfrog Canterbury and reclaim third spot while claiming one of their biggest scalps yet.
Which premiership hopeful will prevail?

Hearing some strong rumours that Melbourne Centre Ryan Morgan has agreed a 2 year deal with Saints to come to SL next year.

Anything in the Aussie press about this ?

also that Luke Walsh's proposed move to Manly has fallen through. He still wants to return to the NRL (or rather his missus does because she wants to be close to family for their young baby) but he's without a club now for 2017.

Canberra Raiders forward and English international star Elliott Whitehead has extended his contract with the Raiders until the end of the 2018 season.
Whitehead, 26, joined the Raiders at the beginning of 2016 after a successful seven seasons in the English Super League and has instantly made an impact in the NRL, playing all 22 matches for the Raiders this year.
He was currently on contract with the club until the end of 2017; however his form and performances in his debut season meant the Raiders made the extension a top priority.

Vodafone Warriors managing director Jim Doyle has today responded to a media report linking Kiwi international Kieran Foran with a move to the club next season.

Commenting on a story published in Sydney's Daily Telegraph, Doyle said he had a personal relationship with Foran and had maintained contact with him for a number of years.

“I’ve talked to Kieran more regularly this year to offer support as he dealt with personal challenges he was facing. His well-being has been the focus,” he said.

“When Kieran decides he’s ready to resume his playing career, we’ll certainly be interested in talking to him further.”

Canberra Raiders star hooker Josh Hodgson's Dally M Medal hopes have taken a hit after the England international pleaded no contest for his grapple tackle on Melbourne Storm prop Jesse Bromwich.

It means Hodgson will miss the Parramatta Eels clash at Canberra Stadium on Sunday – the first NRL game he'll miss since joining the Raiders from the Super League last season.

He'll also be docked three Dally M votes for his one-week ban, hurting his chances of claiming the individual gong.

Back-up hooker Kurt Baptiste has been named to start, with Adam Clydsdale coming onto the bench.

Farmduck i think your been a little over dramatic, no one cares when players do this there alpha males not IT geeks.

The ones who make a big deal out of this are jealous types and feminist minded women, how many young blokes get involved in fracas late at night? making it look like the man's committed crimes against humanity.

Knowing the media they most likely invented this ambulance part of the story.

Until we get the full story you cant call it career suicide, he could have easily been provoked by patrons as happens to a lot of athletes or by the bouncers.

When you've already been sacked by 2 NRL clubs, you don't need to do much. Apparently there is security footage of the whole thing so we'll eventually get to see that and make up our own minds.

So, Ryan James has been found guilty of a high tackle on James Tedesco, which broke Teddy's jaw so that he required an operation to insert metal plates, but had the charge downgraded so he doesn't miss a game.

Fair?

Well you get a one game penalty for touching a ref.

Parramata legend and former New South Wales and Australian representative Ken Thornett has died, aged 78.
Nicknamed “The Mayor of Parramatta”, Thornett played 130 games for the Eels between 1962 and 1971, where he made the fullback position his own.
He is currently recognised by the club, with the annual players’ player award named in his honour as well as a grandstand at the Eels’ home ground, Pirtek Stadium.
He was named in the official list of Australia’s 100 greatest players on the game’s centenary in 2008, having played 12 Tests for Australia, scoring six tries.

Ben Creagh has announced he will retire from being too injured to play for St George. I guess the writing was on the wall when NSW stopped picking him for Game 1 of Origin so they could use him as the scapegoat for the loss.

Ben Creagh's career at a glance
  • 270 NRL games, scoring 216 points
  • 11 NSW games
  • 2 Australia games
  • 6 Country Origin games
  • St George Illawarra Dragons captain
