South Sydney Rabbitohs veteran John Sutton has revealed that he wants to play on in 2020

The 34-year old is coming off one of his best seasons, playing 27 games and forming an elite combination with Cody Walker and Inglis on the left edge.

Sutton will become the first player in Rabbitohs history to reach the 300-game mark in 2019.

“I can’t wait to rip in every day, play my best footy and whatever happens happens,” Sutton told The Herald.
“But I wouldn’t say this is definitely my last year.

“I felt like I had one of my best seasons, we had a great year and despite a disappointing finish, all in all it was a good year.

“I was confident I’d be back. Halfway through the year we started talking about playing on, and I was happy to kick on another year.

“I’m not worried if next year is my last year or not. But don’t rule it out. It’s not off the cards.”

Sutton was keen to learn from new Bunnies coach Wayne Bennett, even showing an interest in coaching after he retires.

Manly NRL star Dylan Walker has been stood down from training after being charged with assault following an alleged domestic violence incident involving his partner on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The woman, 24, suffered minor cuts to her shoulder, leg and feet at a home in Dee Why, on Thursday afternoon and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Walker, also 24, was later arrested and charged with common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The Sea Eagles centre was driven away from Manly Police Station by coach Des Hasler after being granted bail to appear at Manly Local Court on Tuesday.

Manly chief executive Lyall Gorman said the former Kangaroos Test star and South Sydney premiership winner wouldn’t be required for training until after his court appearance.

“He needs to clear his head. He’s only been released from Manly police station through the night,” Gorman said on Friday.

Gorman said his club’s chief concern was the welfare of the alleged victim and a four-month-old child.

“I haven’t been able to speak to Dylan personally. I have spoken to his partner on four occasions - twice last night and twice this morning - and been trying to make sure we look after her welfare and the welfare of the family and the young baby,” he said.

“She’s in good care with her mum and dad.”

Gorman, who has also referred the matter to the NRL Integrity Unit, wouldn’t speculate on any possible sanctions should Walker be found guilty.

“It’s too early to say what the consequences of this are. Clearly, it’s a very serious allegation,” he said.

“I don’t have the police statements of facts yet so it’s a bit early for me to make too much comment other than to express great disappointment on behalf of our club,” he said.

“Allegations around domestic violence are of course are totally foreign to anything we stand for and our culture and values, as of course, it is to the game holistically.

“We all know they (the NRL) have incredibly strong views around domestic violence of any sort and particularly in relation to any females.”

The Canberra Raiders have been fined $150,000 for moving a home game to Wagga next season as the ACT government have come out and said that the club has breached their deal to play all matches in Canberra.

The government are believed to enforce the terms of the contract to play all home games at Canberra Stadium as well as a financial penalty if games are not played at the venue, according to .

The club is keen to negotiate a new deal into their stadium contract for 2020 and beyond.

The decision to fine the Raiders has raised questions given that NSW government has committed $4 million to a rugby league centre of excellence in Braddon.

This financial contract helped the Raiders build a $19 million facility at Northbourne Oval.

That sounds serious. I don’t even want to know how the victim got cuts to her shoulder, leg and feet

Too many stories of bad behaviour ...

I agree, with the intense media spotlight players are under in the NRL in some ways we are lucky that the game over here doesn't get such scrutiny, as we have seen the only time we make the headlines is when something untoward happens. Lot's of thing's used to happen in the past of course but not everybody was walking around with a camera in there hands, many club's both here and in Australia used to have a 'fixer' who took care of such situations either with money or other means, probably still happens but harder to cover up now.

Rugby Union up and coming  Izaia Perese has decided to swap codes and switch to NRL. This is despite stand out performances for the Wallabies last year. Apparently he's joining Brisbane Broncos via player development contrat. This sees him spend 2019 with their feeder club Redcliffe Dolphins and then likely to move on to a Broncos full time contract in 2020.

Kurt Mann is moving to Newcastle Knights from Dragons. He was due another season at St George Illawarra but has been granted a release from his contract. He could be linking up with Knights as soon as tomorrow. Media reports suggest he sees this move allowing him to become a specialist hooker instead of a utility player. Knights have a gap to fill due to Slade Griffin's long term injury.

Pretty standard for this time of year. During the season the players are either exhausted from training or playing or they're recovering from injury so their "social" lives are limited. And here's another one .......

NRL player Jack De Belin has been charged with the aggravated sexual assault of a woman in Wollongong, south of Sydney.

The alleged 19-year-old victim claims the assault happened at an apartment after the pair met at a nightclub in Wollongong on Saturday night.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ready to believe that this young woman is telling the truth and has been through a painful experience... but, when he proposed a nightcap, what was she expecting?

Well, I agree with you 100%, Graham. Yet, I'm always amazed when I read that people put themselves in that sort of situation in the first place. What is it, the 4th or 5th incident since the start of the month? It's going to be a long offseason.

Edit: Of course, it goes without saying that I'm in no way defending De Belin's actions if what is alleged is true.

The complications of Corey Norman’s reported move to St George Illawarra are many — but none more dramatic than the question of what Parramatta will do with the salary cap vacuum his departure creates.

Public speculation has focused on the impact Norman’s arrival at the Dragons, on a three-year-deal will have on the futures of fullback Matt Dufty and star playmaker Gareth Widdop.

Apparently Norman’s departure will arm the Eels with an $800,000 salary cap gift that will allow them to enter the open market and snatch up any talent that should be available before the start of the season on March 14.

Parramatta seem to be refusing to budge in their negotiations with the Dragons surrounding the release of Norman.

Broncos coach Anthony Seibold has assured star halfback Kodi Nikorima that he has not been shopped to other clubs and he is an integral part of his plans for 2019.

The new Broncos coach was emphatic when he said the club had not discussed offloading Nikorima with other clubs and had no intention of doing so, despite media reports to the contrary in the wake of Shaun Johnson's recent departure to the Sharks.

Seibold said he had spoken to Nikorima in person and on the phone about his future and that the 24-year-old had not given indication he wanted to leave or that he was even considering it.

Sydney Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has been named the New Zealand Rugby League Player of the Year Wednesday night’s NZRL awards.

The awards night saw twelve winners with Waerea-Hargreaves taking home the title after phenomenal stint with the New Zealand Kiwis in 2018.

A trio of New Zealand Warriors, Tyler Slade, Onjeurlina Leiataua and Ken Maumalo took home trophies, as did Sydney Rooster Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

Kiwis coach Michael Maguire praised Waerea-Hargreaves for his impressive campaign in the four test matches played post NRL season.

“As a senior player within the Kiwi’s camp, Jared put a lot of time into discussing the growth of the Kiwi team,”

Corey Norman’s move to St George Illawarra will provide Paramatta with $800,000 spending spree, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.

In addition, the Daily Telegraph has revealed that star recruit Blake Ferguson is in the frame to make a shock switch from wing to centre.

Ferguson was brought to the Eels to fill the void left by Semi Radradra but it is understood Arthur is weighing up where the 28-year old would be most valuable.

Getting Ferguson to take over Haynes role would also free up cash to chase another top notch front-rower after adding Junior Paulo to a pack that was lacking last season.

The Eels will also look to give rising youngster Dylan Brown a significant upgrade to warn off interest from the New Zealand Warriors.

Not sure where the pieces fit in 2019 then before Widdop moves on . Widdop Hunt and Dufty are there . I really hope Dufty doesn’t get elbowed out . I’d prefer Hunt to be the odd man out but that won’t happen
