Doncaster RLFC player coach Paul Cooke spoke further to the official website after his sides defeat to Hunslet Hawks.

The Dons suffered a fifth straight defeat in the Kingstone Press Championship, going down 32-12 at The John Charles Stadium on Sunday.

Cooke admitted his side need to be more respectful of the football in order to get back to winning ways.

He said: “It is the execution of skill and having that self discipline, maybe not to throw the ball so much or to not try and throw it when it is not on, by having that restraint in our game.

“Then obviously we need the skill to be able to perform it, when it is on, but right now we are not giving ourselves a chance, which is disappointing.

"With the scores at 12-12 after 50 minutes we were well in the game, but then we conspired to give as many penalties and as much field possession as we could away.

"This was against a team who have only scored one try from outside the opposition’s 10 metres in the four games that they have played before us, so to invite Hunslet into our ten and twenty was disappointing.

“We need to fix it quickly and that’s what we intend to do and we will work hard until we do so.

“It is not something that isn’t fixable, it’s not something that we can’t see, everybody can see it.

“The things that need fixing are not difficult things to fix, it’s about getting that balance right, we need to grasp the situation’s that we are in and earn the right to win a game, building up more pressure than we are doing.”

There was one bonus in the match as scrum half Richard Wilkinson made his comeback from injury.

“Having Richard back is a big positive for the club, he will get better, he knows that and we know that and we are not too far from having Danny Nicklas back as well,” added Cooke.

“Barring that today, we need to fix up glaringly obvious areas that we keep speaking about week after week, I sound like broken record with it but these areas need fixing up.”
