Whitehaven piled more misery on Paul Cooke’s side, with a convincing win at the Recreation Ground keeping Doncaster pinned to the bottom of the table.

Cooke handed a debut to Peter Fox on the wing, whilst Ben Reynolds on loan from Leigh Centurions started on the bench.

Doncaster got off to the worst possible start, knocking on from the kick off and Whitehaven took full advantage of the field position when Jessie Joe Parker sent winger Craig Calvert over in the corner, with John-Paul Brocklebank adding the conversion.

The hosts extended their lead inside 10 minutes, Steven Bannister provided a great offload to Ed Chamberlain on the overlap on dual registration from Widnes and he weaved his way under the posts, with Brocklebank knocking over the extra two points.

Danny Nicklas gave Doncaster hope, when he went over from dummy half and Dave Scott added the goal from touch.

Whitehaven however added to their score nine minutes before the break, after opting to tap from a penalty in a bid to score, Tyla Hepi managed to bundle his way over, with Brocklebank converting.

Just before the break, things went from bad to worse for the Dons, Mitch Clark knocked on 15 metres from the Doncaster line and Whitehaven took full advantage as Scott McAvoy smashed his way through under the posts.  Brocklebank brought the half to a close with a successful kick.

Half Time: Whitehaven 24-6 Doncaster RLFC

After the break Whitehaven continued their dominance and Hepi brilliantly span out of a tackle, before offloading to James Newton who finished off the move.  Brocklebank kept up his 100% record with the boot.

Debutant Fox reduced the score line, Lee Waterman provided a great offload and the winger found a way over in the corner.

Two minutes after Fox’s try, Doncaster went over again in the move of the match, Reynolds sent Welham away on the overlap, who offloaded inside to Jansin Turgut, he kicked inside and Reynolds picked up and scored for a debut try.  Scott converted to reduce the score to 30-16.

However Doncaster’s hopes of a comeback were over in the 67th minute, Brocklebank’s cross-field kick to the corner found Chamberlain to score his second try.

Brocklebank then added a drop goal, before a late try from Craig Calvert and conversion from Brocklebank, sealed Whitehaven their second win of the season, leaving Doncaster four points from safety.
