Tries per game ratios

Recommended Posts

I'm still cracking on with appearance and scorer stats and am now back as far as 1986.

Hoping to track down a few more Rothmans editions online this week to go even further back, with the aim of eventually bridging the gap right the way back to 1973.

This is a natural first milestone. Maybe in the future I can try and go further back, but initially I don't think it's a bad place to stop.

I will eventually publish all of the stats, but I'm still considering the best way to do it.

I don't want to make any sort of profit out of it, but I've spent quite a bit of money and time on it, so I'd like it to be able to benefit Squadbuilder, the stadium development or the Amber Ribbon in some way.

At the moment, I have a very comprehensive, formula-packed and rather boring Excel Spreadsheet. And any suggestions of what I can do with it would be welcome.

We've mentioned a book before, or an electronic resource like Featherstone have recently done, but I'm still unsure about the best and most cost-effective route.

Anyway, one of the formulas I've put in is a 'tries per game' ratio.

The interesting thing at the moment is that the top three players in this category are at 0.73, 0.74 and 0.75 (where 0.75 represents a try in three-quarters of all appearances).

Can anybody name these players who have the highest try-scoring strike rate for the club since 1986?

Each of the players have made at least 40 appearances (Shaun Robinson has a tries per game ratio of 3.0 having scored a hat-trick in his one and only competitive appearance for the club against West Hull!)

1. 0.75

2. 0.74

3. 0.73

By the way Tom, Rothmans only goes back to the 1980 season and there was no real equivalent before then although Stones Bitter, British Coal etc hall had short-lived versions.

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.
