Well at least TGG got a mention on BBC Breakfast this morning. Just the one game, mind. Saints against Salford. Seems like Saints have a new star. He's called Tommy Mackinson. It's not as if he's a new player on debut. He is an established star already, yet they can't get his name right.

The BBC researchers are just lazy. They are now in the habit of using Americanisms on their news website. Too idle to check basic spelling so I doubt they put too much effort into researching a RL player's correct name.

I wouldn't worry too much - if the waffle coming from the new Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport last week's any thing to go by the Beeb in its present form's doomed anyway.

I hope not. I really enjoyed watching the formula 1 qualifiers for 3 hours on Saturday evening prime time.

I think of the BBC nowadays as a home for rugger loving champagne socialists.

These types have no interest in Rugby League or working class people as a whole and only pay attention to Soccer because its the biggest sport in this country.

If they had their way the would stuff union down our throats 24/7.

They only show Rugby League because we pay our TV licences.

My local radio station cover saints and wigan games and even won an award for their coverage of the GF...however they announced that for the magic fixtures saints would be playing at Langtree and Wigan at the DW....

AND you could listen to live coverage on their station!!

V. Poor indeed!!!

I actually think of the BBC as a pretty good media outlet, specifically outside the UK where they have to earn their crust.

This might seem (and probably is) a really thick question but why do the BBC have to earn any crust at all outside the UK? Commonwealth countries?

Because if they didn't have their BBC Worldwide commercial arm, the licence fee would have to be higher

Your post is very contradictory. If your last sentence was correct no RL would be broadcast nationwide and they would only cover internationals and local radio live  coverage would be close to non-existant.

The UK government was up until recently paying 98mill a year for world service..... at no point in my travels I have seen RL on the world service!

I did however to my shock read an article on rugby league in USA today paper..... it was about Terry Newton failing a hormone drugs test.....I think the implication was a lot of NFL players were on this!

To be honest, I wouldn't expect to - it's primarily a news service for the entire world, not a news and sports station for the UK like 5 Live.

Indeed.  I think many have assumed over the years that it's just an off-shoot of Radio4, given that it carries many of its programmes, when in fact it is government funded output, through the FO so far as I know.

It's one of the reasons why English travels so well abroad, and particularly in remote parts of the world.  So it's to the shame of the last coalition government that the World Service has come in for such 'reorganisation'.  £98m is a pittance given what it delivers for this country.

Part of the reorganisation was to cut the FO funding and now have it come out of the licence fee

I know.  That's the pity as its raison d'etre will be somewhat different from here on in, and it will be subject to internal commercial pressures.

Check out the caption below the Phil Blake photograph on the BBC news app. For those who can't access the app it says that Blake worked in rugby league prior to joining Leicester. Although factually correct he also worked for Manly RU before joining Leicester. There's absolutely no need to reference rugby league but they just can't resist. And people say there's no agenda.

The story on the BBC Sport site merely says he 'has coached in both codes.' No other reference to RL.

And when they found our shadows

Grouped around the TV sets

They ran down every lead

They repeated every test

They checked out all the data on their lists

And then the alien anthropologists

Admitted they were still perplexed

But on eliminating every other reason

For our sad demise

They logged the only explanation left

This species has amused itself to death

No tears to cry no feelings left

This species has amused itself to death

So just to clarify.

The much maligned Auntie runs a story about a New Union coach and mentions that this person has previously worked as a Rugby League coach as a way of explaining his credentials, a comment that is as you are happy declare is factually correct.

You, for some reason that I can't quite yet fathom, think this is a "negative" and proof of an agenda by the BBC to undermine Rugby League?

Sometimes I despair when it comes to fans of TGG. I have no doubt at all that if the BBC had announced this new appointment and NOT mentioned that the new coach had a League pedigree, then if not you, one of the other people on your ward would have commented upon that as proof of an agenda.

How about your take on my original post, then? Can you ever imagine the Beeb ever referring to 'Sir Johnny' as 'Williamson'? They disregard or disparage League at every available opportunity.

If you actually bothered to read the article Blake has been banned from RU for something he did in RU. His RL background has zero relevance to his ban yet the BBC felt they had to mention it anyway. I do despair of people who jump in feet first without bothering to read the referenced article.
