Leigh sign Dayne Weston from Melbourne

Recommended Posts

Will confess to watching very little NRL but hasn't he played about 12 of 15 games this year for them? We will be in a strange position at present, with the vast majority of the squad signed up with upgrades for SL - should we make it - but it will be difficult to finalise a SL squad until you know you are in it.

We run a very young reserves Parky, they wont let us have an Academy I believe, maybe you can put a word in.

He has played 10 times from the bench this year, but as a Storm fan he has done nothing and probably why Storm are happy to release him. Cant say he has ever really impressed me with his 2 yearss or so at Melbourne. With the Pre season retirement of Norries and the loss of other Forwards he should have stepped up but hasnt done for some reason. As said, he is very average and feel there is a Player in the UK/France that is just as good.

Agree with others. This is the absolute worst type of import. Nothing against Weston but he's a grafter. Grafters are a combination of hard work and attitude. Good coaching should be able to take young local kids and turn them into reasonable grafters after a couple of years in the gym and on the paddock.

Save your import slots for specialist players to fill gaps in the roster and for older, mentor-type players who will work on skills and game planning with your younger players.

How disappointing as a Leigh fan to read the opinions of those who have seen him perform that they believe Weston to be an average player - at best.

But saying that, Leigh are seemingly blessed with a very good coach although he still has to prove himself at the top level should we be good enough to gain promotion, it will be up to him to mould Weston into the player he desires him to be.

I can recall quite a few players coming from Aus with high reputations that have not lived up to their billing, whilst on the other hand some unknown imports have proved to be very good, for us Leigh fans let's hope he falls into that category.

You were all bitchin about fui fui bein past it but he ripped super fev to shreds yesterday. Lets wait and see

Not saying Weston's past it. More like he never got there. Fui is past it anyway, relatively speaking. At his best he was a world class front rower. He isn't any more, but he's still better than Dayne Weston ever has been. It's just a weird signing, Leigh have a heap of good props, seems unnecessary. He might go well though, you're right. Let's wait and see

Very true the hype surrounding Bowen was huge, as was Asatosi, Tautai, Moa etc - NRL experience plus right age for a prop plus decent size plus working for what appears to be a great young coach = potential

I've put a word in for you to share Wigan academy as a Joint venture with a draft system.

Oh no, they will want all Leigh's best young un's as well as their own, nothing changes!

If he's been good enough to be selected by Storm, injuries or missing games don't bother me, He's been up against the cream of NRL so no shock how hard it is to get selected. So, in comparison, coming to Leigh is a fantastic move for us. Paul and co will get any 'crinkles' ironed out. He'll have loads of play maker knowledge from Storm & Sharks, as well as his own skills, having mixed with some of the best players of this day and age. Welcome aboard the Leigh dream Dayne, and to your wife and kids too.

He's Wilkes replacement as had been said, and also, I agree with the let's see posts. Hard working ticks the right boxes for mine. My glass is half full so far :)

Whilst I do not suffer fools gladly, I will always gladly make fools suffer

Hope Leigh are not paying him much as he is a very average fringe Player at Melbourne Storm. I would think there better British/French Players out there to be honest.

bit of a difference between Melbourne n Leigh (no offence to leigh) surely a fringe player at Melbourne would make at least a good player for leigh.

The relevant part of your post is " after a couple of years in the gym and on the paddock " , he is seen as the replacement for Ollie Wilkes , a grafter who works hard and has a good attitude , so hopefully fits the bill for us

Bear in mind he is only our 2 nd down under import , much less than many other clubs

Craig Stapleton came with a relatively low profile , he was superb for us in 2005 , ran his blood to water in every game despite us losing heavily many weeks , he never took a backward step or a rest and left a legend in many fans eyes

So welcome Dayne , just give us your best , that's all we ask

Everybody said Spud Carroll was great when London signed him, hevwas complete garbage, then goes back to Aus and gets SOO selection for NSW.
