Barbarians and Eagles meet in Division 1 vs Premier Division Cup final Clash

This Wednesday Kingston Park sees the final of the North East Rugby league cup, with Division 1 leaders Whitley Bay Barbarians taking on Premier Division leaders Wallsend Eagles in what promises to be a most entertaining game.

Both teams have had a tough route to the final, the Eagles knocking out 2014 Premier Division Winners Jarrow Vikings in the early rounds as well as fellow premier Division Side Cramlington Rockets.

"We are looking forward to playing in the cup final especially at Kingston Park and is something which has eluded us for the past few years. Whitley Bay will be a strong physical side and we have to make sure we are solid down the middle to compete in the game. The pitch at Kingston Park suits our fast paced game so looking forward to seeing how the games plays out. We hope it is a good game for the neutral to come and watch with the top 2 sides from each division going head to head". Alan Stevenson - Coach Wallsend Eagles

Whereas the Barbarians took a very different route, seeing off Premier Division sides Durham Demons and Darlington in the earlier rounds and then coming up against Division 1 title rivals Gateshead Storm A in the semi-finals. A game which was narrowly lost by the Barbarians, however discussions after the game between both sides led to the game being replayed a week later in a league / cup double header unfortunately in which Gateshead Storm A where unable to field a team.

"The game of Rugby league in the North East is going from strength to strength. I think it is a nice change to see Whitley Bay Barbarians getting good performances week in week out. I would like to mention Chris Parker and Rob Jones of Gateshead Storm showed real sportsmanship to let the Barbarians through to the final. I am sure the game against Wallsend Eagles will be exciting as both teams have pace and power through their squads." Seamus McCallion Head Coach of Whitley Bay.

The game will be played at Kingston Park on Wednesday 29th July, with a 7:30pm kick off entry is free through the Tap and Tackle and both sides supporters should be present in full force. If you've never experienced Rugby League before this will be a perfect introduction to the game at a local level with two of the areas longest running sides.
