David Cameron: UK to accept 'thousands' more Syrian refugees

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34148913

Now, let me guess.

1. Not enough.

2. Wrong mechanism.

1. He hasn't said how many so no one knows.

2. Seems a fair way of doing it.

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

3. He clearly got caught out by the situation.

4. He can read the mood music like anyone else.

5. Even you said we weren't doing enough.

4,000 is the figure being reported by the UN Refugee Agency

Ireland are going to take 1,800 over 2 years

No word yet from the doyen of Scottish politics.

I’m not prejudiced, I hate everybody equally

That's bound to be the case.  Can't do right for doing wrong so far as I can see.

However, I'm glad that Cameron has taken the route he has chosen.  As a country we are donating vast sums of money to assist in running the UN camps in middle eastern countries who are seeing the bulk of the genuine Syrian refugee crisis and that is a Good Thing.  If we offer the option of refuge direct to our country for more genuine Syrian refugees then hopefully word will spread, thus avoiding the traffickers, and other European countries will follow our example, most notably Germany who has made everything worse by saying they will take gazillions of migrants and thus giving the traffickers carte blanche to exploit vulnerable people and put their lives at risk.

I think Cameron has got this spot on. He has remained true to his convictions about traffickers while offering additional place of safety to genuine refugees.  He will have been negotiating with local councils during the last week I should think as they will no doubt be demanding money from central government to support local services for the additional refugees.

3.  The same applies to the whole of Europe.

4.  Indeed, but he isn't compromising his convictions in spite of all the pressure.

5.  What is 'enough'?  Translating that into tangible action is what the debate has been about.  He still isn't taking anyone from Calais, for example, and that is a good thing.

4. Oh he will or this will bring him down. Boris has positioned himself against Cameron in anticipation.

I doubt both of those completely.  There is not the public pressure to open the doors at Calais or indeed any other port.  As it is, the government is likely to receive a massive bill for compensation to our truck drivers (since the French government likes to take its time over these matters).  There is no way the government will take anyone from Calais or any other port where illegal immigrants may demand entry to the UK.

I realise that the forums Supreme Soviet is not interested in facts, but only interested in anti-Cameron invective and flat-earth socialism, but it has in the past cited Fullfact as a trustworthy truth

So here are some full facts that show that some organisations are lying.

You go and tell the local councils that.  As at lunchtime today only Bradford and one other unnamed council had offered to take any refugees at all.

100,000 is a ridiculous number when £100 million is helping to provide key services to camps in the region of Syria, a far better use of our funds and efforts.

I wonder what tantrum would befall if I started likening some posters to Goebbels?

Why? If there is neither the proper facilities or a proper infrastructure in place then this would help nobody. Britain like many Nations has a health and social system on its knees and is struggling to look after its own let alone others. The UK will end up being like Germany if it does what Merkel has done. Germany is in a right mess thanks to Merkel who has invited 1 million plus. These people dont belong in Europe and Europe cant properly help these refugees. These people should not be encouraged toi come to Europe. What is annoying and wrong is the antic of many Refugees, who are not interested in just escaping War and Persecution-which I dont have a problem with. But they are now dictating as to where they want to go-usually Germany or the UK. These people want to come to Germany or UK for one reason-MONEY! These people cant just dictate where they they want to go.  Its just stupid and wrong what Merkel and the EU have done and they  are guilty for the death of peoplethat are trying to get to Western Europe.

Nowhere in the hundreds of opinions upon this subject, has the name of Tony Blair appeared. He, along with Bush, started the whole scenario in motion with their decision to invade Iraq and destroy the non existant weapons of mass destruction.

The whole issue of intertribal wars and conflict within the middle east has been the result of the actions of these two despots.

They should have both faced war crimes courts. There is nothing anyone can do to halt the flow of migrants, an action that will upset the balance of the whole world regarding religion and social attitudes, a problem that has arisen caused  by the removal of Sadaam Hussain, Gadaffi and the attempted removal of the Syrian leaders.

These people were tyrants in their own right, but at least they kept their regimes under control.

When are we going to stop interfering in other countries problems and ways of life?.

That black liquid underneath the soil is certainly a big attraction.

Yes it has, I mentioned him at least once in a critical manner.

Oh, make no mistake about it, Cameron can be pressured into doing the right thing.

The whole middle class/polictical class can be swayed by public opinion as they try and catch up with the curb!

People seem to forget chances our you dig into any of our DNA and we're mostly migrants from far and wide.

Wow,thats more than the entire prison population in Britain

And then you encourage more to take the risky passage

Who pays for their upkeep, housing which is in short supply anyway.

They need to be discouraged from coming/safe havens in neighbouring countries is the temporary answer.

After you let in 100k what do you do when another million turn up?

Sorry if the link doesn't appear to make sense.

Please try it, though, because the article does make sense.

I am biased, but I believe that people should be allowed to live wherever on this planet that they wish to live. I accept that there has to be some sort of control - if 7 billion people wished to live in the UK, it would be impossible - but as a general principle, I stand by that view. Welcome people into your country. You need them.

My bias? My grandfather moved from Ireland to England. I have moved from England to Greece (and back, and back again!). Why shouldn't I be allowed to do so? Why shouldn't I be allowed to live in North Korea / Yemen / Syria / Afghanistan if I want to do so? As long as I agree to abide by the laws of the country, I see no reason why not.
