European Refugee Crisis

Recommended Posts

I read a report in The Times (print edition) this morning about the response by refugees in Turkey to the reports of a welcome in Europe.  All the travel agents in Turkey have recorded a massive increase in ferry bookings since the welcome was made by Germany and the numbers arriving in Greece on a daily basis reflect this.

Are they advertising German guilt trips? Because that's all this 'invite' is.

Absolutely.  The risk to us is severely mitigated by our security forces and the real-terms risk to an individual is negligible.  You're massively more likely to be killed by someone driving without insurance yet we don't see anywhere near the same level of hysteria about that.  Islamophobia is rising heavily due to the grossly inappropriate and misplaced hysteria by those who either should know better or are deliberately ignoring the facts simply to suit their own prejudices.

It was negligible up to a month or so ago but the risk has been greatly increased by the percentage of "young men" coming into Europe unchecked with no passports/papers.

Why are there so many "young men" who have left their wives/girlfriends and children behind in a war torn country.

I saw a clip today of them running riot on a Greek Island, the islanders were scared to death.

As for Geordie Saints point about "How many foreign citizens have conducted terror attacks on UK soil since Islamic fundamentalism became a problem? I don't know the answer but I'd hazard a guess at practically none."

Well there was the tube and bus bombs in London in 2005 which were 4 nutters born here, and its only pure luck that another atrocity didn't happen a few weeks later.

The risk will greatly increase now over the next few years, our security forces are stretched as it is keeping tabs on likely suspects, inviting 10's of thousands of unchecked people on our continent is just asking for trouble.

If you want to call that Islamophobia so be it,i call it common sense

Remember it only takes 1 Fanatical Jihadist to cause devastation to innocent victims

Denmark have stopped all Trains from Germany. Merkel and friends have managed to overload an already stressed out System that sees the Police and Border controls in places like Rosenheim in Bayern give up trying to Register People as the Situation was getting out of control. The irresponsible Actions from Merkel and the EU are a disgrace and will lead to further Problems in future. . Sadly the illegal immigrants and those doing the hard work are forced into this Situation while the Politicians live in dreamworld and have no idea what they are doing or what they plan to do in the future.

In a BBC Radio Five Live feature this morning, if I heard things correctly

1. Syrians can buy an official  passport from the Syrian Govt for $400.

2. This passport allows the holder to travel to Turkey.

3. Turkey is seen as a gateway to the EU.

The guy the were interviewing was crestfallen when he was told by the BBC reported that he would not in fact be a refugee but an economic migrant. Makes me wonder if in deed Syrai is not engaged in some sort of ethnic cleansing by making it so easy to get out of the country.

3. Not in anyway minimising the difficulties that migrants face but all (!!) - if I understand this correctly - that passport holder then has to do is

- cross Turkey.

- cross to Lesbos by boat - 6 miles, then you are in Greece

- then get to the Greek mainland

- travel through Greece - EU country

- travel through Bulgaria - EU country

- travel through Rumania - EU country

- travel through Hungary - EU country

- travel through Austria - EU country

4. Lo and behold you are in Germany.

Just feel there is a lot more to this whole thing that we see and that genuine refugees are being swamped by other classes of migrants.

It is not just Syrians coming. It is estimated that around 30% of Refugees are from the Balkan state and are economical illegal immigrants with a number having links to the Albanian Mafia. Add to that Africans that are coming with no pass and pretending to be from a war torn area and knowing it will take a bit to sort through if they are asylum seekers or just here to get Money. The whole Thing is in a mess and nobody has a clue how to sort out who is genuine and who not and what even the history is of These People. Ist known that Kurds in Turkey are pretending to be Syrian Kurds to get in to Europe. Europe cant take the whole of Africa and Middle East and we are still seeing Merkel and her friends allowing weapons to be shipped to These Areas and nothing really done to try and sort the Problems out in These Areas. I fear the trickle now will be a flood next year. Why would you stay in Africa when you can get free accomodation, Food and water as well as Clothes in Europe?

Not sure how that is in any way sinister given that you buy passports in pretty much every country.

One of the saddest aspects in all this German led hysteria and resulting berating of non-German governments is that the people who are really in need, those who do not have the means or opportunity to escape the region, are being totally ignored by everyone but the UK.

given your stance on various issues on here I'm hard pressed to believe you give a flying fart those "really in need"

This is why the little lad ended up dead on a beach.

If his family had simply walked across from Turkey into Greece they would have been classed as economic migrants. Travelling by boat allows them to claim they have travelled from Syria and claim refugee status.

anyone know why they don't then stop in Bulgaria, Rumania, Hungary  or Austria?

Don't forget Greece or Serbia or Macedonia.  Not many are asking for France either, or Denmark (although 100 claimed asylum in Denmark yesterday when the trains were postponed due to chaos).

Is it only the UK government that's helping people still in Syria or the 90% of Syrian refugees not in Europe?

EU plans for member states to accept 160,000 new asylum seekers represent a "drop in the ocean" in the scale of the crisis, Germany's vice-chancellor says. Sigmar Gabriel said 450,000 people had arrived in Germany so far this year, with 37,000 in the first eight days of September.

That is 1000 people a day, every day of the year so far.

That assumes that the immigrants will be just as qualified and employable as the displaced retirees.

Best of luck with that one.

For each #AFCvSCFC ticket sold Arsenal gave £1 to the @savechildrenuk Child Refugee Crisis Appeal. At HT we presented a cheque for £59,963

(Arsenal twitter)

Guardian writer Pete Paphedes has also worked to release the Crowded House song 'Help is Coming' in order to support Save the Children's direct work with refugees.

Pictures have been on social media of supposed ISIS fighters in other parts of continental Europe before. They were eventually found out to be an FSA fighter (anti-Assad) and a Kurdish Pershmerga fighter. Both by all accounts had fought against ISIS. So in a nutshell, don't believe everything you see on social media!
