Rugby Union World Cup Legacy?

Recommended Posts

Reading Blake Solly's comments in the RLE, RL does not need to worry about the RU World Cup

Listening to 5 Live today who were in Leeds promoting the RU World Cup they spoke to a RU Development Officer

  • He said RU have been planning this World Cup for 3 years to help increase participation.
  • The RU have been spending 10's of millions £'s improving local club facilities
  • They have actively increased X number of volunteers throughout the game
  • They have increased or trained 6000 coaches
  • Introduced RU into schools where it was not previously played (Not sure if he said 400)
  • He spoke about what they were doing in Leeds and Manchester

I would be worried, RL as an amateur game is on shaky ground, RL does have a better product in terms of a spectator sport but where is the legacy from our most successful World Cup to date?

Also RU is promoting a winter based game so there will be no chance of its success  ;)

If clubs have any sense, they should be looking to recruit new players on the back of the RUWC, as there are still a large number of people who don't appreciate the difference.

Quite right - piggyback on the tournament's publicity and encourage parents to get their kids playing 'Rugby'.

Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.
