"The first of which will sound a little bit morbid - some of the people... won't be around to vote against you in the next election. So that's just a practical point, and the other point is they might have forgotten by then." He added: "If you did it now, chances are that in 2020 someone who has had their winter fuel cut might be thinking, 'Oh I can't remember, was it this government or was it the last one? I'm not quite sure.' "it is a well known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it." With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. I once met a senior officer in the army who was a pacifist but also a realist. His view was to have such a well trained military and group of friends plus the political will to hit hard that no-one wanted to fight you because of the consequences. He called it first-strike pacifism. Took me a few years to understand the really deep grasp of things behind that that makes it so true. They want us to be just like China and America where working until you drop in servitude to your political masters is expected except for the minority with the luck and family money to avoid it. The tax credit cut was framed as being financial, part of balancing the books, a necessary change, Hunt's comment puts it firmly in the idealogical frame. Though that 18 includes such luminaries as Liz Truss so I doubt many will go any distance!
