Doncaster suffered a second heavy defeat in a week as York City Knight's former Dons stars came back to haunt at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Head coach Gary Thornton handed a home debut to Matthew Cook, whilst called on Harry Tyson-Wilson and Reece Dean from Hull FC.

It was the visitors who got off to a blistering start after some neat handling Brad Hey went over as York took the lead inside three minutes, with former Dons halfback Danny Nicklas converting.

Another former Dons man then extended York's lead inside ten minutes, former captain Mike Emmett bundled his way over with a trademark effort.

Thornton's side got a foothold back in the game though, when Doncaster spread the ball out wide neatly and Matty Welham scored his third League 1 try in two matches.

Doncaster then levelled the scores when Louis Sheriff barged his way over in the corner from dummy half and Reece Dean added the touchline conversion.

However, York regained their lead just before the half an hour mark, Jonny Presley's brilliant grubber kick was met by Ed Smith who read the ball perfectly to score underneath the sticks, however with Nicklas off the field, Brett Turner failed to convert.

Another former Dons man Richard Wilkinson then extended York's lead just before the break with a fine solo effort to give York an eight point advantage at half time.

Half Time: Doncaster 10-18 York City Knights

After the break indiscipline cost Doncaster, two penalties gave York field possession and Kris Brining took full advantage, bursting over and Nicklas added the extras.

Mason Tonks was then sinbinned for dissent and York took full advantage, some neat play lead to Jordan Crowther going over and Nicklas kicked the visitors into a 30-10 lead.

Doncaster were then reduced to 11 men when Joe Pickets-O'Donnell was shown a yellow card for a late tackle on Wilkinson and former Dons prop Brett Waller powered his way over after some fantastic hands by York. Nicklas was again successful with the conversion.

Nicklas was the fourth former Dons man to cross the line for York late on, he converted his own try before Crowther went over for his second of the afternoon.

Makali Aizue scored a late try in the corner after a great run, with Dean converting, but it was a dissapointing day all around for the Dons.
