BARLA to Introduce Club Membership Scheme

Recommended Posts

BARLA (The British Amateur Rugby League Association are pleased to announce that they are going to introduce a club membership scheme to all Tier 4, 5 & 6 clubs. BARLA are looking to bringing the membership scheme in on the 1st September so that clubs playing in BARLA competitions can gain immediate benefit.

The cost for joining clubs will be an annual fee of £25.

The benefits for clubs taking up the scheme will include:

-  Free participation into the BARLA National Cups at both open age and youth and junior

-  Free participation into the Cumbria and Yorkshire County Cups at both open age and youth and junior.

-  Tier 4,5, and 6 clubs will be eligible to put forward players from their clubs for selection to the Cumbria, Lancashire   and Yorkshire which compete in the BARLA Three Counties Championship at both Open Age & Under 19’s & 17’s.

-  Tier 4, 5 & 6 clubs players will be eligible to be considered to play for both BARLA Open Age & Under 23’s, 19’s and 17’s international side which may take part in any future tour.

There are more announcements to be made in due course as BARLA move forward to welcome all clubs within the governing bodies ‘Four Seasons Rugby League' strategy, and increasing the sports participation.

Clubs wishing to join this club membership scheme should go through their respective District Leagues or alternatively as sometimes occurs with BARLA’s National Cup entries at all age groups via the BARLA Secretary.

BARLA Chair, Sue Taylor said: "In introducing this new venture, the BARLA Membership Scheme, we hope that all current tier 4, 5 and 6 clubs will buy into it.  Admission into the BARLA National Cups at Open Age and Youth and Junior, and the Cumbria and Yorkshire at all age groups is free.

.

“Players from all member clubs will be able to put forward players for trials, for their respective counties - Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire - to play in the Three Counties Championship at Open Age Under 19’s and 17’s.

“Players from all member clubs will be eligible to be considered to play for both BARLA Open Age and the Under 19’s and 17’s international side which may take part in any future tour.

“By becoming members, clubs will save money when entering BARLA competitions, and their players will have the chance of competing for both their county and country in competitive games.”

Desperate measures for a desperate failing organisation it just beggars belief .

Is this Barla testing the water for the RFL who I believe are looking to bring in their own membership scheme ?

Barla have always had a membership since 1973, People say what is Barla doing for the game, they try to do something and they get shot down again. If a club is a member of Barla weather they have NCL, summer men`s league or Youth & Junior teams in it they will be covered for international and 3 counties as they will be a member at all age groups.

As it is now the players going on tour are not members of Barla so for £25 all their players will be eligible and clubs who enter the National cups and Yorkshire cups will be pounds in.

Not Rocket science.

Yep BARLA have always had a membership scheme, wasn't the criteria to be able to play for the county via the inter-town teams which was controlled by the district leagues, well I'm not up to speed but I'm sure some on here are, 1/ Didn't the RFL want to get shut of the district leagues and County committee's, 2/ Didn't clubs pay into their district leagues who in turned paid BARLA for their membership, 3/ Isn't this a way of doing what the RFL wanted in the first place, 4/ Does this way allow BARLA to say no to any club they don't want or who doesn't toe the present Junta's line ?

Barla as not moved with the times still stuck with 1970 s values .

Barla needed to modernise its membership years ago but have had no one with the vision or charisma to bring it about .

Hence the posistion they find themselves in today .

What incentive is there for non-heartland clubs?

Yorks and Lancs cup entries?  Three counties games?

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Who do you think organise the county cups and 3 counties games and maybe a fourth area (Southern area) could have been introduced (moving with times) but if I remember right, wasn't the RLC built mainly from the Southern teams who basically left BARLA for the RFL

Well there is the question when their old day throwbacks ways come into play.

It used to be you have to play for the county to play for BARLA GB, no counties rugby outsider the heartlands so every other player is irrelevant!! second they no longer run the Lancs cup only the Yorkshire and Cumbria.

There is no vision on the board. The actual press release was a smack in the face for the rest of the rugby community outside the heartlands.

I'm looking forward to more announcements if they do something positive ill applaud it

I'm a feeling a certain person has been told they can run the game in the winter and anyone of thing that gets in the way is removed and because of this IMO it's time to have a breakaway that will promote a fair and even playing field for all, the only drawback would be where the referee's would come from.

Why pay for something you get for nowt now that's rocket science

You wont be able to play for your County or Internationals if your club is not a member as from this year plus if a team in Yorkshire joins the Yorkshire cup at all age groups and the National Cup they end u quids in, Why do all the people slag Barla down when Barla try to do something then in the next breath say Barla don't do owt. the club membership will give all the teams in a club free entry to the County and National cups as well as giving players the chance to play for their county and Country as they will be a member.

Why should a player that is not a Member of Barla get Barla honours this is the questions being asked by the NCL as well as other Youth leagues as it wont be long before they are stopped from doing it and that is not through Barla.

Barla was a pain to the RFL but now they are not as the RFL have full control and as you said the RFL run the referee`s, does anybody think the RFL will allow somebody to take over all the amateurs and run them as if the RFL allows this then they would be bigger than the RFL themselves, The RFL money would stop.

Not a prayer.

Where was the RFL money in the 70's and how much money do you actually need to run a team, BARLA wasn't a pain at all, a bit out of touch maybe, the RFL have become a pain in their dictatorship and it's power crazed Vichy style of government, Here is a quick one that I found out last week, when Sue Taylor got voted into office she got the Doncaster vote, nothing wrong you may say.

The Doncaster clubs had a meeting to discuss who they where going to vote for and they decided to vote for Stuart, however on the day of voting the Doncaster rep had a problem and couldn't get, what the Taylor supporters did was bring in the new Doncaster Toll Bar secretary (He lives in Huddersfield) to vote for her, the point here is, 1/ He wasn't on the Doncaster Committee. 2/ He never attended any meetings even though their club has always had a rep there) 3/ he was never mandated to vote for the district and 4/ Voted against the districts wishes. since then BARLA have never Invoiced the district for it's BARLA fees and since been classed as a defunct district, BARLA at this moment in time stinks of nepotism.

Why would the NCL be asking why, from where I'm sitting many NCL Clubs left BARLA, the NCL itself hasn't done BARLA any favours either, this scheme is designed to take away any authority the county and district committee's have, it's a known fact that the RFL want rid of them and it now looks like they're getting this via BARLA.....When is the next vote for leadership ?

Out of interest Phil how is the membership scheme going ?

The point you clearly miss is this the recent Barla tours have gone with non Barla members representing Barla .

Now you are saying unless their clubs are members then the players can't represent Barla ,

Guess what bye bye the last thing you hold onto .

Wasn't Just Doncaster that voted against their districts wishes!!

I would stand again but because of the skull doggery going around not allowing districts to pay fees and be members then allowing other to go unpaid and still vote you get the feeling it will be fixed.

Should be an open vote the next one

I think they only communicate with the yes sir people, if you disagree your squeezed out, what they don't realise there are a lot of people who have their own minds, one day they could be against a certain point and the next day they could be supporting a different point in a democratic way. In doing it their way do they realise or even care that the BARLA boundary is shrinking, another point, they are getting rid of the chain of command and trying to take on the workload that various committees once did, this will prove a downfall because you couldn't get in touch with BARLA after Roger Fagge left, going back to our rep, he told us that he had emailed BARLA for a invoice so he could pay the league fee's, he also said he gave his works email address to give BARLA two email routes.

Phil he did mention that weeks maybe months afterwards he did get a email from BARLA asking for the minutes from the AGM, can you say why you didn't email the Invoice at the same time so it could be paid ? the district are more than willing to pay the fee's and any other fee's that may be outstanding, but like Sue will know, in business you don't pay anything without an invoice.

Barla have disenfranchised its own membership for personal gain and that is scandalous it's time for a new fully democratic organisation to emerge .

I'll 2nd that, I'd still like to know why BARLA wouldn't allow the CMS Yorkshire league to start up again (As if I didn't know :) )

The CMS Yorkshire league is nothing to do with Barla. it is the RFL that have said the do no longer have a licence as all the teams left and went to the Pennine league. the Pennine league now have the Winter licence for yorkshire area.

As a newbie to the RL forum and looking through the feeds which some are very good and proactive but it seems that many people are pro Barla and Pro RFL. if people put as much effort in to keeping the great game alive as they do with slagging everyone down then maybe the game will go forward instead of downhill like it is.
