Lots of rumours about teams at deaths door

Bradford

Sheffield

Featherstone (if they didn't reach the 4)

Workington

Whitehaven

So that's almost 50% of the championship teams..

Something is wrong boom or bust

Mentality is destroying the league

Pressure is building.. For a few clubs come the end of the season.

It depends though doesn't it? If some clubs have an income stream other than match days then, come the end of the season, this will continue but the need t pay players etc. won't. Hence there can be a positive cash flow when they aren't playing

Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change.

If we're not careful players are going to price themselves out of teams.. Or teams will get into trouble trying to compete

Dangerous situation for all

If we're not careful we will get purely relegated on the facts new teams coming in like toulouse & Toronto will push us down..just imagine if Toronto is,a success and 3 more teams want to come..there's no way heartland clubs trying to balance the books will compete.

It could become extremely cutthroat... As failure could be terminal.

I really feel for the future of our wonderful game ..... its not all about Super league!!  I enjoy watching my team on a Sunday ( yep on reflection even this year ... I just enjoy the sport) .... however for us purists things are not looking good, the attempted 'globalisation' is only feeding the desire for the holy grail ... ( Super League) ... I say stuff super league and bring back Bramley!!!!

Call me old fashioned .. call me a traditionalist... call me a rugby league supporter!!!  I just think that the glamour aspect of our game is in danger of starving what is our heartland!!  Toronto, Toulouse, et al.. ( rich mans train sets) are using us, and many just average players ....which will ultimately present a threat to  future sustainability in less fashionable areas ....   Wakefield are a true heartland team and I for one want to see them still around in 10 years ...  I would welcome them at our place as Batley did us!

By all means spread the word!! but not at the expense of our heritage and heartlands!!!

P.S. My idea of the best Sunday is .. a couple of beers a good game and then roast beef and Yorkshire pud!!

" see ya luv just going to t' match in toronto see ya for sunday lunch later!!" .. somehow is not overly attractive to me!!

Amen to that !

Some nice sentiments , but none that help the sport in growing. Out of interest how does speading the word to Toulouse, who I wouldn't call expansion team they have been going since 1937 , exclude any heartland team? Blackpool and others managed to fold all by themselves.

And back on topic seems Wakey have had the ground and building surrounding it sold to a developer. I can see the whole lot been demolished.

I treasure the sentiment and memories just as much as you TONO but when, in the past thirty years did such sentiments hold true - or is it maybe a rose-tinted past to which we hark?

The games problems didn't arrive with SL by any means. The increased commercialisation of all sport (of which we are only a tiny minority) isn't really to be welcomed but is a reflection of the society in which we live and the way that it has changed. Rugby League can no more hold back this tide than any other sport.

From our point of view the loss of and relocation of mining, and the decimation of the textile and engineering industries in the region contributed hugely to sealing the fate of our sport in the HW. It's ironic that television, which helped popularise the game back in our "glory" days, is now in some part responsible for it's demise for all but the favoured few SL teams. As you say BSJ - it applies to other sports too. I still don't see that trying to create teams in areas that patently don't and never will have room for RL is a solution, but hey ho. If I'm honest, I would prefer Ch1 be turned into it's own development/experimental competition with maybe the addition of a few top amateur sides, and the heartland teams, along with LS, and if necessary Toulouse and Toronto returned to the Championship.

Toulouse ...and they started in our league when???  The point I am trying to make is exactly that... and I hope if the sport grows they will have their own country leagues which can be easily enjoyed by home and away fans. I just hope they don't irreparably damage our league in the process ...  From a 'heritage' perspective I am much more passionate about ensuring Wakefields survival than I am in developing the game in other countries! Actually if Wakey played at our place I would probably watch them! ... but I will never go to Toronto to watch a game !!

Does it matter how long Toulouse have been playing in the championship? The French already have a domestic league enjoyed by many IIRC correctly they play in winter. I'm not sure how they would damage the league to be honest as long as they play within the rules it's not an issue to me .

How do you choose which away clubs you visit by the distance from Rams stadium or how long they have been in our league or is it something else ?

I would go to Toronto to watch a game , funds permitting, been before it's a nice city.

So when is the announcement expected regarding where Wakey will be playing next year .... the Wakey RFL forum seems to be resigned to it being at our place ...... Belle View has been confirmed as sold by their chairman/owner.....  so they will need to make some announcement soon.

Wakefield's Chairman wants the announcement to be made by the end of this month to get season tickets details out as quickly as possible.

I would guess that these things aren't just done with a handshake TONO so a contract would need to be agreed, which involves legal consultation, and such things aren't quick as many will know. If Carter is keen to hurry things along then he must be pliable in agreeing to our terms. If he isn't then he will have to wait.

Really I can't see what Rams fans are getting so twitchy about - how will it affect us as individuals one way or the other?

It would bring a decent amount of money into our club if Trinity did come to our stadium. That can only be of benefit.

Indeed, so why is it so important for fans to know what is happening as soon as possible. Leave it to those managing the negotiations.

Plus aren't rumour and conjecture the life blood of forums like this  ... there are 30 pages of it on the Wakey RLF forum ... it clearly matters to them!

The ball is entirely in Wakefield's court. They have sold their ground without establishing their right to a long-term tenancy nor any commitment for improvement. The RFL need a decision from them quickly until such time we continue with our ground development plans at the scheduled pace.

New poster to this forum

I had to post after seeing the Wakefield site on RL fans apparently some of there fans have the idea that the sharing with us is actually them obtaining a 51% share and becoming the owners, leaving us the tenants !!

I know the wakey fans do live in a strange dream world when talk of stadiums begins its yearly round but I think , if they do come , some strict rules need to be put in place.

1. Money for rent etc up front for full year

2. No boards saying Wakefield play here or implying the ground has anything to do with them.

3. No office space at the ground... Its not yours find your own space

4. All bar and match day takings are ours, even down to using our stewards and paying for the privilege

Remember it is our ground , if we rent it out, its on our terms and for our benefit. We are not a charity, not doing it as favour, it has to be a business decision which makes us a profit.

If not I would say thanks for your enquiry but no thanks
