Is this work being funded by the EU?

Nope, none of it

The Heysham bypass was jointly funded by DfT and Lancs Council, The Liverpool docks upgrade and the Lorry park are being funded by Highways England

Thanks.

Mark Carney has changed his tune.

Yesterday he told the treasury select committee that  "the financial stability issues are greater on the continent than they are for the U.K." and "at the point of leaving, there will be capacity taken out because certain institutions aren't authorised. That is more likely to affect Europe than the U.K."

He went on "The EU was heavily dependent on London and any attempt to cut the UK off would hurt it badly "

He had previously said "Brexit is the most IMMEDIATE and significant risk to the economy and it would be likely to have a negative impact in the SHORT term" in fact the economy EXPANDED at the same rate in the 3 months after the vote as in the 3 months prior to the vote.

He was asked specifically if he still saw Brexit as the greatest threat to Britains financial stability? After dodging the question he finally came round to admitting that it wasn't.

On this thread, the pound dropping is a good thing.  It is the positive thread.

Which isn't a bad thing across the board as it now makes those materials that are available from the UK competitive compared to the previously cheaper import.

Its also not a disaster in the long term either. A large proportion of these raw materials come from outside the EU, from countries that are subject to tariffs. Once out of the EU we then have the ability to agree deals that will reduce or remove that tariff thus making those raw materials cheaper again.

Just pointing out that the fall in the value of the pound doesn't lead to all negative impacts. Its good for exporters and its good for locally sourced and produced goods

I did not intend to seem sarcastic.  It is rather like the monarchy, if people are against, they will find it is a waste of money, if they are in favour they will manage to decide it pays for itself.  That applies to both sides.

I have spent the last ten days in Portsmouth with a group of Danish colleagues.  They could not believe how cheap everything was.

well, Portsmouth. what did you expect. Makes Mablethorpe look posh! :)

A lot more expensive that where you are!  Portsmouth is crowded onto an island, that makes rents go up and takes costs up with it.

You never know, over time this may also mean some manufacturing returns to the UK.  That would be good news for all those blokes stuck in low paid warehousing work.

Fair enough.  I did not know that.

Without the EU, just leaving doe snot seem exciting.  How about a vision?  If we unilaterally drop all tariffs, we could see some of the success that Singapore has seen.  What red tape removal will see the UK triumph?
