England v France - Avignon

Recommended Posts

Avignon is a good safe choice for me and if the FFR13 can sellout the stadium or at least go close in doing so then I think we can definitely build on this fixture for the future making it a regular annual event. Even more so if the French put up a fight and give us a game.

Predictions for the future -

Crusaders RL to get a franchise for 2012 onwards -WRONG

Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT

Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG

Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

I promise to pay 10 to the charity of Bomb Jacks choice if Widnes Millionaires finish above the battling underdogs Crusaders RL. I OWE A TENNER!

Come on, Jannerboyuk - think positive!  You can get up and walk about on a train.  And you have scenery you are not used to viewing to watch going by.  See the journey as an entertaining, informative, enjoyable part of the holiday, not a chore!

I don't plan to go but out of interest just looked at the Accor Hotels site.  They have rooms in what looks to be a centrally located Ibis Hotel free that weekend.  Probably simple and cheerful (I've no idea, to be honest), but - hey - make it part of the fun and experience, if you are intending to go!

The pont d'Avignon looks pretty scenic to me.

Agreed, albeit perhaps not the greatest and most useful contribution to local transportation planning!

More good info on trains here

https://loco2.com/destinations/london-avignon-train

Note Avignon can be via Lille which avoids crossing Paris which can add a lot of time

The 12:58 from London on Friday 21st takes just over 6 hours

Yes, this is the way. I will meet two people at the Cats tonight who have just taken the same route here to Perpignan via Avignan and Montpellier, so can post later on their experience.

I've booked my hotels for a long weekend in Avignon and Nimes. I looked at the train and it works out quite expensive taking in the trip to London.

However from Luton to Nimes by Ryanair is £12!!! Yes twelve quid - that's much less than a match ticket.

It costs £23 to come back and the trains from Nimes to Avignon are more than every hour and it takes 30 minutes.

Decent hotels can be had from £60 for a double and it's cheaper in Nimes.

Just have to wake up the RFL to sell me two tickets now. .

In my experience, JR, the French Rugby League are at least sharper about announcing these fixtures than the RFL, so maybe that would be a better route for getting tickets too.  They have an online ticketing service (albeit not yet showing the international)  Just google "Billetterie officielle ffr13" and that should bring the link to the site up; have a French speaking friend with you, is probably good advice, if you don't speak the language..  I presume you could get tickets through it in due course, though I admit I have never had reason to try to do so!

Avignon and the surrounding area is beautiful. If you can go and make a Kong weekend of it then I highly recommend it.

The Pont du Gare, Nimes, the Camargue, Le Grau de Roi, etc... Flights to Nimes from Liverpool for £40 return.

That's what we hope to do. The palace of the popes has long been on my to do list, nine in all lived there I think, and roman Nimes is a wow.

All that and an international, just hope the weather is kind, October is their wettest month.
