The level of financial support they would receive in Championship 1 is not the greatest and you only have to look at the number of clubs in that division struggling to get by both on and off the pitch to understand it can be a very difficult environment even for established professional clubs.

Progress through the ranks of the NCL might put them in a stronger place long term to go into Championship 1 rather than an application to go straight in?

Just an observation.

Interesting, but is it feasible both financially and performance wise?

Its a huge step up from NWML Division 2 to Championship 1 don't you think?

We will have no problem financially, we have the necessary procedures in place to ensure that we will remain sustainable at an increased level of expenditure.

Yes the step up is a big one and we will look to strengthen the playing squad as required. We have everything in place to compete at League 1 level should the RFL accept the application, we have been in discussion for over 2 years and the application submitted in the last couple of months. It's not something that has happened overnight, there has been an awful lot of planning to reach this point.

played against a manchester, think it was knights about 15 year ago in the national cup. Is it anything to do with that set up?

Without reading in to what you have said too much, it appears you are effectively looking to buy a squad in then? As the required playing infrastructure/squad does not currently exist (NWML Div 2) at the level it would need to be at to compete at Championship 1?

Bold move if so, but good luck all the same.

It would be interesting if the RFL do approve Manchester Rangers for League 1. Irrespective of what people think about the way the RFL have gone about expaning the semi-pro game the clubs admitted to League 1 in recent years have had an obvious strategic value. I'm unsure of how obvious is it with the Rangers given that Salford are already in Super League and are in the Manchester area.

Best of luck with the application though. The game needs enthusiastic clubs and the members that form them.

We have already identified potential player streams and the formation of our full time academy is also part of this. We have some players who can make the step up and we can further strengthen around them. Toronto have assembled a squad from scratch and what a squad it is. We don't want to just sign players, that's not what the club is about we are working hard, and have been for a number of years, to develop local Manchester based talent.

Salford are a key partner for us and we work very closely with them to ensure the development plan for the city of Manchester is the best it can be. They work extremely well in the Salford district and also in Trafford with some coaching in Manchester but don't have the resources to provide wide scale coaching. Without ourselves and Mancunians coaching in the local schools and signposting to clubs the reality is there would be less Rugby League development within the city. As someone not originally from Manchester the athletic potential of young people in this area is extraordinary and could prove invaluable to Rugby League.

Salford and Manchester are both very different and independent cities.

Yes it is and it has come with a considerable price tag attached to it, which is unlikely to be in the reach of any other Championship 1 team.

Depends on what their initial goals are,if it's to consolidate in Div 1 and compete with the other development teams,it wouldn't need a huge amount of expenditure.

This is a VERY welcome development in my opinion

We hear a lot of talk about 'strengthening the heartlands' on this forum - and what could be better than to have a team with the name of the largest city along the M62?

I don't buy the 'Salford already cover that area' argument. Salford is a different city, for heaven's sake. And it will never attract the same media attention that Manchester will. The club looks really well set up off the field, with ambitious and far-reaching Academy plans and a really decent ground to play at. So long as they can attract a few decent quality players to bolster their current squad - and they are obviously much more geographically situated to do that than the likes of Oxford, Hemel etc - then I see no reason to think this won't be a very welcome success story

Well done - and good luck
