Joe Cobb retires

Nothing will change in that Department until they get rid of Ganson who was completely the wrong appointment in the first place

Joe is one of the good guys. A reasonable referee. Shame to lose him.

As for the referees department at the RFL. That organisation has stunk for years dating back to Cummings and Tennant.

As Mr Cobb is a solicitor and has taken out a grievance procedure I can only draw 2 conclusions -

1) He will win

2) There will be even more bad publicity for the sport.

Will it ever end...?

Weren't there similar bullying allegations when Jon Sharp was head honcho though? Would indicate this goes further than Ganson? Not saying he's blameless either, mind

Someone resigning with these grievances is ridiculous

Whoever is responsible should be given the boot asap, if it's endemic then clear the whole mess out

Is there a link to this anywhere?

Not sure if it's in the latest League Express as not seen it yet, but it's in today's League Weekly

Yes there was.  Ganson was there both before and after Sharp

Your first paragraph is spot on

As for the second it was much better under Cummings than under recent "leaders"

Until someone at the organisation starts to display some real leadership and management skills, these incidents will continue. Far too much 'jobs for the boys' practice throughout the sport.

The game is already short of referees and yet how many have walked away? I would hope there would be an investigation to all this and it made public as to whats going on. I would hope that the RFL would not keep it in house but would use people from outside the sport so nothing is covered up. Such incidents should not be happening and the RFL have a duty to make sure that any employee found abusing others in any way is kicked out and not allowed to have anything to do with the Sport again.

This condemnation of Jon Sharp explains more than the problems with Referees, it questions the strange way Disciplinary reviews have turned out. Yet somebody on here last week praised our Disciplinary procedures.

The whole RFL needs a shake out.

There will not be any investigation, it will just disappear as this lot are untouchable and they know it. At least until the RFL grow a pair.

Joe Cobb does sound like one of the good guys from what my mates said when they socialised with him after Catalan v Giants last year!!

He is the most hated ref at Perpignan since that Huddersfield game, he was atrocious. I think he's hated in Widnes too for the same reason.

Categorically gave bulls everything last season via batley. Even disallowed 2 perfectly good tries that the bulls players were embarassed about.

Nevertheless batley went on the get into the qualifiers the week after

Bullying and homophobia has no place in sport.Period!.

It doesn't, also important not to immediately side with someone without knowing any of the facts just because they claimed they were being bullied.

I witnessed Joe Cobb give one of the worst refereeing performances ever at a North Wales Crusaders game a few seasons back, however I have seen him give decent performances once he was promoted to Super League but he was prone to howlers

Whatever we feel about his performances as a referee he should never be subject to bullying and homophobia by his employers. If this is endemic as suggested by some of the posts above then this goes against the whole "Respect" ethos of treating everyone equally no mater what their age, race gender, gender orientation, faith or sexual orientation. The RFL must treat the allegations seriously and ensure all players referees ,officials directors, managers, employees and volunteers can be involved in Rugby League without prejudice.

Best of luck to the guy in whatever he chooses to replace reffing with.  Maybe Child and Hicks can follow suit?.

Reckon every referee is hated by some fans somewhere. So lets sack them all then......er but then we'll have no games.

If what is reported is true, then someone at the RFL should be suspended immediately. And suspect Joe Cobb will have some solid evidence given his profession.

I didn't intend to take sides. All I was saying is bullying and homophobia isn't welcome in sport.I'm sure that both do exist to a certain degree.
