Workington my life
I'm a clifton lad and have no problem with seaton just want the young lads to get a fair crack of the whip. Just an idea from next season why don't town take 2 or 3 from each club and play them against the town squad see who shines and who hides away and if they perform they can get to do pre season with them to see how they go and will also count as a present season game for town and give youngsters or the best players that year a chance to stand up and be counted

I do agree with a select allerdale side playing and seeing who stands out. but everyone can have one good game shouldn't justify a signature
Workington my life
Yeah people can but I mean there consistent players from that season and see how they go
miaow
have to agree with gillmeister on this one seaton have a great youth set up with some good coaching at all levels. The coaches work very hard on what is the next step for these kids and how can they develop them even more. They are not just looking to win a couple of trophies (would be nice of course) they are trying to build the next generation of west cumbrian rugby players. They are trying to build bridges with the club as they see the youngsters as the next generation. All these conversations take place in there own time they are merley being proactive for the young uns and the club. Nothing stopping any other club doing it. Just for info the next crop of u16s has a heap of talent six of them on scoalrship, and are hoping to play some games at the Zebra stadium this year again all because the coaching staff are taking the bull by the horns the u14 also have a very capable team - hopefully a couple will be picked up on scholarships the u12 has one of the only females in the county on a scholarship, I guess that's speaks for itself
Jbeck97
Seaton have a great youth set up that I was lucky to be apart of at under16s before moving back to Broughtonto play open age so I have nothing against season and I know they have a great set up and they helped very much with my development of rugby and I think the lads that played of the weekend down very well stepping up to that level and from playing along side them once well done lads and I know I'm not ready for the step up and maybe not for me but would be interesting watching the best players from each team come together and play against town to see who can perform. And yeah I am awaiting an operation to repair my torn acl so all the best to the lads this year and to the players my age having a chance
dkw
I think a trial game is an excellent idea, as long as the amateurs clubs buy into it and treat it with respect, rather than the become a political tool etc. Town also would need to use and respect it correctly also. Good luck with you operation by the way, never nice to hear of a young player needing that kind of operation, though thankfully it isn't the career ending injury it once was and many players return to there full capacity. onebiglad
Some very interesting comments on this thread .i can only comment on Ethan williams yes he may have a good season at flimby last year but it was only his first season at open age .is he ready at 17 to be playing at that level the answer is no.will he be ready in a few years who knows I think what Workington are doing is good and a common sense approach.i like the idea of them inviting players down at the end of season to train with the squad and get a taste of the next step .flimby are doing a good job and looking after their young players .They trialists on show on Saturday were indeed from Cumbria storm as was Ethan and I'm sure with Dave Clark being involved if he had thought if any other player was ready they would also have been invited .The last thing we want is for any young kids asked to step up when not ready then sickened and lost from the game
DavidM
I still think it's a crying shame that we lost , for whatever reason , those lads from last year who were top notch amateurs . Forrester should have been town fullback for years , Lucock had everything to take over as hooker and Akehurst had the pedigree to fill a spot we are always light in . Real shame , and these things can have a knock on effect regarding others signing if they feel they were treated unfairly
Anonymouse
your always going to lose talent for one reason or another in the semi pro game , a good paying job is not worth losing for having too much time off or the money offered to play is seen as not enough to sacrifice so much family and socialising time or sometimes just being over looked for long periods time gets too frustrating when all you want to do is play also a major loss of game fees if you arent playing etc , other players of a similar caliber are around as we saw with Dowsett who looks like he is going to be good , early days tho as there are quite a few teams older and stronger and smarter than the U19's to face and which will give a better chance to see if they have what it takes .One good thing for the new signings is most are going to be playing regular as its a rebuild and not much scope to ease amateur players in as players like Akehurst and Lucock had to endure
JontyBell
I know they're knocking on a bit but I think Satch and Eddie Dog would still do a job for Town. Great experienced players.
gillmeister
Spot on Miaow All we want is the lads to achieve the best of there potential and we encourage them to go out and do that wherever that may take them on there rugby journey Forget Chuck and Chad I am the real legend killer
westizbest
wow .. just think, all the youngsters from the amateur set ups both Haven and Town have now would make a very competitive age group for academy / reserve football, if they ever get their heads together to merge its there to be seen the numbers of decent players that could be brought through the ranks to play first team. Personally think its far too early to be throwing some of these guys into Towns first 13 but they seem to have no choice, hopefully this of the many 5 years plans we have been involved in under Stokes.. Rotherham... Charlo... Vievers this actually comes to something of a head and gets us somewhere, paying the price for the duel reg / loans of the past 3 seasons I'm afraid that AND the ###### of a coach we had for the past 3 years ! The Town boys have spoken they've all but flown the nest proving LOYALTY is no more, but the way they were treated who can blame them.. soon to be seen though the grass isn't always greener at the recreation ground hard times to be fallen upon down the coach road pitch this season I'm afraid, Barrow on the other hand will push Canada all the way, while Town are left to pick up the pieces of the Vievers / Fryer disastrous tenure, (we got the world cup games though didn't we.. OH and we signed Sammut
gillmeister
Can't agree that Veivers tenure was a disaster. Progressed to having the best half back in the league being used only to kick on the last with very little contribution during the rest of the set. Under Veivers we played the most dull, predictable, tedious rugby I've ever seen at DP.

shaun mc
IMO the progression the season before last one - this only amounted to bringing Sammut in for enough games before the end of the season to avoid relegation And then last season the game plan seemed to totally stifle Sammut

westizbest
Let's face it people, the club didn't move onwards one bit under veivers, he and fryer have between them ruined all the good work Gary charlton and Martin oglanby did over the 3/4 years they had the role, the LOCAL youngsters were there, straight from full time set ups and would have been there for years to come had they been treated correctly. You all go on about tee .. and granted he did well back end of last year .. WOW because he was given a chance and actually got some game time, he's spent 2 years sat watching everyone waxing lyrical about tierney et all WHERE DID ALL THIS DUEL REG ACTUALLY GET THE CLUB IN THE LONG RUN ? the players left as they way they were treat by viewers and fryer simple as YES it was the right time for some to move on BUT this club could have been built around the likes of walker mcavoy Elliot olstrom etc for years to come ! Now we're on our ###### where luckock forester akehurst would have 3 years game time under their belt .. oh but look the start of another long term development plan ... good luck to Dave Clark .. I recommend some games of ra ra are watched before the spring
