Motorbikes you own/owned

Tried the search function and couldn't find a biker thread so apologies if already done. Many/any biker types here?


I currently own a 1989 BMW R100GS

and also a 1996 BMW R850R which I'm slowly customising into a Street Scrambler...

The pic above is approximately what it will look like although my custom seat has a cowl on the back and I've removed the rear pegs and also the airbox do have K&N cone filters instead. I've also fitted straight through GP Dominator exhaust which makes a boxer twin engine sound like Gods cough. ?

 

 

I've previously owned a Suzuki RF600 (first bike) and a Honda Firestorm.

Started off with a Yamaha FS1E-DX

(Mine was also in the "wasp" colour scheme)

Then graduated to a Suzuki GT250

Then I had a bit of a break before finally getting a Kawasaki GPZ500

Not the fastest 500 ever built, but it was a comfortable ride.

I am no longer allowed a combination of 2 wheels and an engine. :(

Started a long time ago on a CB125

Then after years of messing around with 125s got a licence in 1990 and moved on to an XJ750

Which was replaced after a few years with a GPZ550

which I parted company from on the A31 at a reasonable pace, writing it off. This and new parenthood (and a speeding ban at 125mph on a borrowed VFR 750) kept me off bikes for a while.

15 years later I came back with a Triumph T595......

This one in fact

which lasted until the repair bills were more than the value of the bike and it was replaced with this

and then on my 50th birthday I replaced it with this which I still have.

I'm not in my 50s yet but the thought of riding that Ducati, as fantastic as it undoubtedly is, makes my back ache just looking at it! Plus I'd likely run out of talent within about 5 minutes of letting out the clutch. One of the reasons I'm building a naked custom with plenty of low end grunt is that I can get the thrills at much lower speeds!


Great bike CV though, love the sound of V-twins. My Firestorm had twin Quill cans on it and I'd frequently set off the neighbours car alarms just blipping the throttle on start up. Happy days!

My 1098 has something like 160bhp available in it's standard form and it is 10 year old technology, the new 1299 Panigale over 200. I can break the national speed limit in second gear (by enough to get banned on a single lane road) and have no clue what the top speed is, the internet says 173mph. Even on the Autobahn I did not feel the urge to give it the entire bean.

I describe it as similar to my cat, very pretty to look at but if you take liberties it will have blood from you.

But I do love it. :biggrin:

I'll post some pictures later.

1st bike, Suzuki SV650S. Loved it, was fun to ride and sounded great with no baffles. ?

2nd bike, Triumph Sprint ST 1050. Great to ride, lovely power delivery and excelled 2up. Terrible reliability however. ?

3rd bike, Benelli Tornado. Sexy as hell, and sounded like nothing else when you wound it up. Far more reliable than the Triumph, but such an extreme riding position was never comfortable for long.

Current bike, Ducati Monster 1200. Only owned since Sept 16, but all good so far. ???

Honda SS50 then Suzuki 125, then after 20 year gap, Honda 125 (for test) followed by 2 BMW K75s, ex Cheshire Police K1100 LTSE and currently got K1100 LT.

Plus a good few outings on JAWA 500 with one gear and no brakes !

My wife complains I selfishly stop her fulfilling her true ambition -

she really wants to be a rich widow

18 months old, low mileage, just getting used, off to Arran end April, the Pyrenees in July

Generally around 7,000 miles a year on each, so since 2006, 70k miles.

302 actually, without fuel.

The VFR1200 engine features in the much more successful and fashionable Crosstourer. The VFR1200 suffered because of its cramped riding position (which is why I got rid after 2 years) small fuel tank and restricted range. Otherwise it was brilliant. It has a range of 180 miles at best, compared with 300 for the Trophy.

no too shabby. my Pan came it at about 320 kg wet, and the Trophy is not much lighter.Getting both on to the centre stand is good to combat age related muscle wastage.

Can't beat a good blast on a speedway bike, never felt acceleration like it !
