Defences not on top today...

To be honest both teams moved the ball around well today and tried to play good open rugby but the defences near the tryline for both teams left a lot to be desired esp North Wales who at times looked as if they couldn't tackle a hot dinner however credit must go to us for scoring some decent tries. Tebby started well and when George comes on he takes us up a different level, thought Ansell had a very good game and now needs to perform like that against the top teams in this div. The little scrum half for NWales Ryan Smith didn't he have a couple of games for us on loan from Keighley a few years ago ? Thought he worked hard for them plus the no24 Anderton ? looked useful.

Frustrating game yesterday, the fact we got so far in front so early and then seemed to disengage our brains at regular intervals, though to be fair Crusaders were well prepared to throw the ball around, with Smith (who played five times on loan for us five years ago) making the most of being given the freedom of the pitch. Seemed that just about everyone in a home shirt managed to do something good at some point but then do something daft on another occasion. Hope defence was the main topic of conversation in the dressing room afterwards, strange because of all the reasons we've managed to lose narrowly to Donny Keighley and Whitehaven this season, poor defence was not one of them.

Awkward looking match at Oxford coming up next week, need to go down there in the right frame of mind as there's no latitude for "banana skins" now ...

Too many silly penalties given away is a big problem for us. Too many times we give the opposition strong field position. To be fair I thought our gaol line defence was good in the early stages. However the three North Wales tries were poorly given away. the 1st the long range try after a poor kick. The second a real mix up in two Hunslet players getting each other way and the third the referee looked to shepherd theri quick tap penalty player by standing in the middle of the Hunslet defence on the goal line.

I thought the attacking play both teams was really entertaining. Clearly North Wales had no choice as they were playing catch in the second half, also there were times when we were well in front that we should had done more "up the jumper" stuff as one of these expansive plays did lead directly to one of North Wales Tries. Without doubt the best try of the day from either side was the one that Danny Ansell finished off under the posts.

Tricky game against Oxford as it appears from the write ups that they tried to involve Toronto in a real "rough & tumble" in Canada by all accounts. Key game as to how good we are is the next home game against Workington. Win this and then we are more likely to be a top eight side this year.

Great day out at Hunslet pity about result, but if we defend like that we going to be in trouble for rest of season, thanks for hospitality before and after game, great set of fans you have.

Agree with most of the previous two posts on here. however, I thought Ansell had one of his poor games, as his kicking, in general, was woeful, he can do better than this, he has one good game in five these days,  just we need to see more good games from him. Now  North Wales Ryan Smith played a blinder, Ansell's opposite number, don't think they will be any banana skins down at Oxford, even if we tackle as bad as yesterday, as Oxford are not half as good as North Wales. The Workington game will be the key, as we won't get away again with such weak at times tackling against them. as for Oxford playing their game against Toronto, this is what Toronto will want tough dirty games to win fans to compete with Ice hockey, tough yes, dirty no we don't get involved. and that's the hard part.
