A depleted Bears squad travelled to play-off chasing Oldham at the weekend, and unfortunately came home with a 58-6 defeat, but it wasn’t through any lack of effort. We’ve got all the analysis from that game, and we’ll hear the post-match thoughts of Bears head coach Tom Tsang.

Not only that, we also chat to Harry Kaufman about his mid-season sabbatical to play rugby league in the USA, we explain how we need YOUR help to cover the Bears’ game against North Wales this weekend and we’ve got news of the Supporters Direct Community Champion Award, which is now open for nominations.

A frustrating day at the office for the Bears on the weekend, who lost 36-12 at home to the North Wales Crusaders despite a try of the season contender from Reece Rance. Our supersub Tim Griffiths stepped in to help us out with this week’s show, meaning we’ve still got match analysis and the post-game views of head coach Tom Tsang.

Not only that, there’s also a very special, one-off, Ask Mr G section, where Tim takes on the role usually held by Craig and answers your questions.

What sort of an impact, if any, has Wasps moving to Coventry had on the Bears MrC?

There has been some benefits such as 4 Nations and World Cup games at the Ricoh which will benefit the Bears. Bears also had a home game vs Keighley at the Ricoh 3 years ago.

Coventry Rugby (owners of the Butts Park Arena) have also not been affected in terms of attendance, and in fact their attendances are up overall. Has to be said there isn't that much cross over between Union and League fans and Wasps haven't affected the Bears in terms of attendance. Despite being largely a side that doesn't win many games attendances have remained at a steady level. Though growth will only come with more success on the pitch.

There has been some city wide initiatives that the Bears have been involved in such as 'City of Rugby' though I'd like to see Coventry Rugby and Wasps doing more for the Bears as a successful Bears would be good for their businesses too.

Get new children playing rugby league every season.

Try to model what's happening in Newcastle. (Ideally track the numbers and make sure they increase year on year).

It is the most effective marketing strategy there is.

It is a long winded process but not only will it bear fruit, without this form of marketing all the rest is a waste of money.

If you want a self sustaining club/game in Coventry this is the only way to achieve it.

Nothing else, will embed the game in your community, create lifelong supporters, provide Super League quality players, fill your stadia, draw in financial backing and ensure success on the field.

Good luck, I'm really pleased with your progress to date and I hope you can go from strength to strength.
