Cheers to everyone for your suggested classic mixed era teams.

Think we've had St Helens, Wigan, Warrington, Leeds, Widnes, Bradford, Workington Town, Halifax, Catalans, Hull, Salford and Fev so far.

Anyone fancy having a go at:

Hull KR, Wakefield, Leigh, Huddersfield, all the various guises of London, Swinton, Dewsbury, Barrow, Whitehaven, Batley, Oldham, Hunslet etc etc

Gus Risman ?

Yep. Good point. Never saw him play, so will ask my Dad when I see him what he thought. But where would he play? Full back, centre or half back. Not having seen him play, I couldn't pick him above any of my choices. Emlyn Jenkins is the other one who would possibly get in.

Great blend of eras that, though weird to see John Holmes on the bench.  I was too young to appreciate him but only one alteration I would make ,would be the inclusion of Mick Shoebottom. As he could play  FB,centre and in the halves..but I won't venture as  to who would be left out. :)

So many class players have been at Bradford over the years, some of these choices are perhaps a bit nostalgic.  Used to idolise the Redfearns.

Good team that but I'd have Tony Fisher over Lowes any day of the week.

I’m not prejudiced, I hate everybody equally

He was quality mate . At Penrith then Bradford . Not what you'd call the stereotype 6 but all brain, organisation and skills . You build a team round players like him

Reading threads like this just reminds you how special a player Ellery Hanley was.  Not many players would make the best 17 of so many fans in two teams never mind three (Bradford, Wigan and Leeds) and I bet he would make the best 17 from a lot of Balmain and Wests fans as well.

What a legend.

Hi Rabbits in reply to your question I think the Parramatta backline is better across the board other than Churchill.

I do not know the Souths players from earlier eras that well but I would have George Piggins in there.

Ben Te'o would not be anywhere near my best Souths team.

Craig Coleman and Dylan Walker although a good Clubmen would not be in my team.

Three of Souths best players are on your Bench.

Brett Kenny widely acclaimed as one of the best 5/8th's ever versus Phil Blake? No comparison in my mind.

Its all in the Eye of the beholder though.

Cheers.

It is all in the eyes of the beholder your right there.

Just on George Piggins as much as I respect the man he was primarily a back up hooker spending much of his time in reserve grade with Elwyn Walters being the starting hooker at Souths and for Australia at that time.

Phil Blake was one of the most gifted RL players I've ever seen and playing behind a brutal pack like this one he'd be unstoppable.

Ben Te'o is class and a true RL enforcer (disgrace he isn't still in our game). Of course It's all just fantasy but you could have a halves pairing of Sterling & A. Johns but up against a pack like that but it would be to no avail because they'd be never be in the game, Forwards win matches.

Cheers.
