I have taken these suggestions off the twitter poll plus comments, and it's fitting there are 13 choices. My favourite is the Bluebirds as it is the official animal for New York but not in use, and reminds me of the Hull KR and Hull FC robins and Airlie Birds.

if it's not on the list feel free to suggest - unfortunately I've just discovered that the list is not amendable otherwise I would have added new ones

 New York Wiseguys

PROUD TO BE A MEMBER OF http://www.rugbyleaguecares.org/ and http://www.walesrugbyleague.co.uk/article/8790/join-team-wales-for-2013

Predictions for the future -

Crusaders RL to get a franchise for 2012 onwards -WRONG

Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT

Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG

Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

I promise to pay 10 to the charity of Bomb Jacks choice if Widnes Millionaires finish above the battling underdogs Crusaders RL. I OWE A TENNER!

Let's dust off an old favourite - New York Mighty Love Gods RLFC.

New York Knights and York City Knights? Dosent work, each club needs its own distinctive identity

Why not? There could well be a Barrow Raiders and West Wales Raiders in League 1 next year.

It might be a cool thing to link Old York and New York.

I remember when Crigglestone All Blacks were getting bullied by the NZ All Blacks a few years ago. Glad they stood up for themselves. Nothing wrong with same names as other clubs.

Personally when choosing a nickname/moniker for a team I think it's best to go for something that's local to the area or some important past event for the town/city like certain animals, industries, historical events and iconic landmarks. A quick scan of Wikipedia shows that red tailed hawks and eastern bluebirds are commonly sighted in NYC while New York City saw a few battles during the war of independence so maybe a name like New York rebels, militias or continentals could work but I have to admit to liking the liberty name.

I've gone with Bluebirds as off the top of my head i can't think of a top sports team in the USA aclled the Bluebirds but i suppose  now I've said that  people will come up with 10 or so top sports team in the US called the bluebirds

Me neither but there's literally hundreds of college football and basketball sides and minor league baseball teams that could have the name bluebirds attached to it.

Metros, Minutemen, New Amsterdam, New York City Ryedales !

I was in Lexington with my Dad at a War of Independence.  We were both reading "minutemen" as "Mi-nute men" at the same time, got the same image in our heads and laughed at the same time.
