Sunday 3rd September 2017

Kingstone Press League One Super 8s

Bootham Crescent

The Dons were made to settle for a point against a tough York side after leading for the majority of the second half at Bootham Crescent.

After an even opening to the game, York took the lead after 17 minutes as a Russ Spiers offload was picked up by Jake Butler-Fleming and the centre raced 30 metres to score. Connor Robinson added the two for 6-0.

The Dons hit back just five minutes later, a break from Kieran Cross eventually led to Jack Miller kicking to the corner where Richie Barnett was on hand to put the ball down. Miller added the two to level the scores at 6-6.

York were soon back in front though as full-back Liam Harris collected the ball from a high kick and evaded a number of Dons defenders while running 90 metres to score for the home side.

The game was levelled up with less than 10 minutes of the first half remaining, quick hands from the Dons saw the ball go out to Nick Rawsthorne who had enough time and space to go over in the corner.

The Dons went in ahead at the break after Miller slotted over a drop-goal just a minute before the interval to put the visitors in front for the first time at 10-11.

The Dons began the second half as they ended the first and had another try on 53 minutes, Hakim Miloudi collected the ball 10 metres out and danced his way to the try-line to extend the lead.

York hit back on the hour mark though to reduce the deficit, this time Neville Morrison had enough space on the right to dive his way over the line.

An end to end game saw the Dons go in again and it was Miloudi who grabbed his second of the game, getting on the end of a superb break from Kieran Cross to go over. Miller added the two from in front and put the Dons 21-14 up in the process.

The home side were back within one score with just 10 minutes left on the clock, Harris jinked his way to the try-line, evading two defenders in the process. Robinson added the two for 20-21.

As the game was edging towards full-time the Dons were made to settle for a point as Robinson kicked a drop-goal to level the scores with seconds remaining.

Thought your  lads completely outplayed us today and were very good and scored some great tries. Huge improvements from the last game at BC.

If im honest we'll take the point and the play-off place, however you will feel robbed.
